So Porter, my 18 month moggy, seems to be ill. He's been acting out. He loves to have his tummy rubbed but yesterday he was literally growling at me & bit me quite hard (he's not a mean cat at all). I think his tummy is sore. Today he's been throwing up & walking around dry-heaving, although he still ate all his food. He seems a bit lethagic. I've found a small fleshy lump between his back legs, he castrated & it wasn't his 'bits'. When I felt it a bit, it seemed to hurt him. He semi long-haired so I often have to cut tangles out his fur, I thought it was just another tangle at first. Guess a vet visit is in order :(

it sounds like he may have a hairball that doesnt want to dislodge :/ i know my kitty has had problems with hairballs, but he is short haired, and a little Vaseline on the tops of his paws does the trick. but seeing how yours is long haired, it probably is not that simple. i wish you the best of luck!

Has his bathroom habits been any differant? If so it may be exreamly urgent. Male cats can become blocked by chrystals in their urine. When mine became blocked his stomach hurt to the point that you described. For a male cat this IS a medical emergency. When i got my cat to the vet his bladder was almost to the point of exploding, and despite spending a grand on vet bills he died from it 2 days later. My intent is not to scare you, but to make sure you are informed, because his stomach hurting to thepoint of him biting scares me. I dont want you or your baby to suffer if this is the case.

Sorry to hear about your baby. Mine does that when he has a hairball but you should go to the vet to make sure it isn't something else. good luck.

I would also suggest a vets visit. Just last week we found a lump on our cat, Phoebe. She went in yesterday to have it removed. The first vet we saw seemed pretty certain that it was a nasty lump due to it's location (between her shoulder blades), but on removal it turned out to be just a fatty lump. We almost didn't take her to be checked out as we thought it was tissue that had grown around her microchip. I know I would never have frgiven myself had things gone the other way! Luckily, it turned out OK for her, but we were very worried until we knew for sure.

Thanks guys. I think I will phone the vet and describe his symptoms, I can get him in today if necesary. I can't find this lump today, but it's difficult to find it with all that fur in the way. He is eating, but I found phelmy vomit in front of his cat flap this morning & it was reasonably fresh. He let me rub his belly this morning and was purring away, but better safe than sorry.

Good luck with Moggy. One of my cats developed a tumor at her injection site (just from yearly check-up shots). It was removed, but she was acting the same - it felt like a marble under her skin and it grew rapidly. Hopefully it's nothing serious- those kitties can definitely worm their little paws into your heart!

update- he's ok :)

He's fine, the vet thinks its just a touch of gastro. His temperature and colour was normal & she couldn't feel anything nasty in his tummy. He also didn't react to being poked & prodded & getting a thermometer up his bum- he's such a good boy.

He got an injection to stop the vomiting, a dose of parafin to clear any hairballs & a course of antacids.

So I'm relieved & my boyfriends wallet it £60 lighter lol :D

Whenever we take one of ours to the vet it's most undignified - they get man handled, prodded, poked, thermometer up the bum and needle in the neck, then to top it all she was told she was fat too! :D Glad he is ok though - I'd rather pay your bill than the one we had yesterday, lol!

lol yea, the vet bill could have been so much worse! he's back up there next week for his vaccinations, so he'll be really happy about that.

The vet put him back in his box then realised she forgot to give him his medicine- so he got tipped out again & a syringe forced down the throat. He didn't look particularly amused, poor thing lol, but he still behaved & swallowed it all down.

Glad that this ended quite well - much better than some of us have gone through. Hope that he's back to his normal self in no time at all - sounds like he needs a few treats for being such a good boy during the thermometer up the bum, though! :D
