I am going to assume he is a snake! See I am right on top of things. Congrats - I think:confused:

haha yep, he's a snake :3 a 5 foot long red tail boa to be exact ;) i inherited him from my moms friend who couldnt care for him properly anymore.

He likes his water bowl I see which is a great thing. Would still like to see new substrate but other than that he looks great :)

you said this substrate was bad because they can ingest it, right? his old owner is giving me his old 40 gallon aquarium to feed in so he doesnt strike me everytime i reach in the big tank...does that help the issue any? :) like i said tho..next cage cleaning i will be slowly changing the substrate to that kind you preferred..he has just been very healthy for his whole life, i dont want to change something and have something happen.

Its not that he could ingest it but reptibark tends to be very dusty and can cause eye irritations. I can't say it causes respitory infections because I don't have proof. However, it often times leaves behind a hideous dust pattern that gets underneath the scales and will stay there between sheds. Reptibark can help with mites but you shouldn't have to worry about it if you only have 1 snake and are not introducing random reptiles into your environment daily. Lastly, red tails need some humidity and reptibark does a piss poor job of retaining any humidity. Cypress mulch is your best bet. Or a jungle mix

If he is 5 years old he probably won't grow much more... maybe another foot if he is lucky. Captive males don't generally get above 6 feet
