okay lets go over a few basic principals. plants have minimum requirements. given that those minimum requirements are met, you can then begin to make your plants bigger and robust.
plants need oxygen. given that your soil mix is loose enough and that it allows enough water flow, you can start to see that when your misters are coming on every day and thouroughly soaking your plants, unless you have a good mix of medium, your mix is going to get and stay wet which is not good in promoting robust plant growth.
here are a few of my tips to helping your plants survive and look better check it out:
coco mat: i use this to keep the medium in my containers from coming through and getting my cage floor dirty.
coco coir: i use this to make a layer on the bottom of my container for fast drying.
********* I also have solved the age old plant nutrition question with this.
because your plants are getting so much water, they are also going to require a time release fertilizer only problem is, we don't want our chams haveing access to it, so when planting our plants, we transplant, sprinkle loose dirt around sides and corners of plant base while keeping soil levels low, sprinkle a tsp-tblsp depending on how big of container what type of plants size etc etc into the mix, then the most important part, take a few inches of coco and mulch this area, so that you effectively seal off your chameleon from the fertilizor zone.
and you don't need to worry about run off because it will be in such small amounts and the plant will have already broken most of it down, not to mention its not really that harmful to begin with we are just very cautious when putting our chams around any manufactured product.
