How long after laying is she ready to breed again?

My female ambilobe panther layed a cluth of 23 on 7/9/12. I presented my male to her today and she seemed receptive. Ive read that people wait 1-2 months after. How long do most of you wait until you breed her again? Or how long do i have to prevent an infertile clutch?

She may be getting ready to lay another clutch, chances are she doesnt need to mate again because of retained sperm. You also probably shouldnt breed her again so soon. She probably needs a break and time to get back in shape from breeding. It is hard on their bodies.

i agree, give it two months get her back to perfect health an buy that stage you should be able to if she is double clutching and if not and she is receptive you could breed her again, i would give her a good three months but other people will have a another opinion

I agree. If you care about your female you will give her the much needed rest that she needs. My female laid a retained clutch 6 months after her first fertile clutch. With most females breeding once a year keeps their little bodies busy. You breed them 30 days or so later they lay and then 3 to 6 months they lay again so that's 7 months then a 5 month break. Some female have even laid two retained clutches.......one at 3 months and another at 6 months. That's a allot of laying and babies.

why are you in such a terrible hurry?
as the others have said, wait until next year. The health of the eggs/babies are dependant largely on the health of the female BEFORE she even mates. You want to give her time to replenish. Assuming you care about her at all, that is.

I guess I was an excited breeder when I started also lol. I am sure after all this advice he will take his time on her.

I am pretty impatient ha but i do care about her health as she is an investment and a pet as well. I spend a lot of time and money on her thats why i am asking the question in the first place. she is wild caught and i dont know if she has any more retained sperm. I want to make sure she is not going to lay an infertile clutch. I dont want the stress on her body for no reason.

So i guess my question would be, If i wait the 2 months and fatten her up and mate her with my male, would she be laying a cluth that following month?

An infertile clutch is much easier on them than a fertile on. The eggs are smaller and much easier for them to lay and they normally don't gain as much weight. Having her fat is also bad for her health. I recommend a good feeding of 6 to 8 feeders depending on the size 3 times a week. If she is carrying retained sperm and you mate her again she could lay eggs from both males that she mated with.

Yes infertile clutches are much easier on them and chances are the clutch is fertile still anyways.

I also didn't know that if she mates with two different males you can get offspring from both! That is really interested.
