how important is a misting system?????

Been considering buying a MistKing system for a while now, wanted to know yalls opinion on if it is worth it or not. I use a manual spray bottle 3-4 times a day. I don't mind spraying by hand. Does it come down to mostly whether I have the time to hand mist, or is there more beneficial things to the auto misting systems? I have noticed that my Veiled has associated myself as the terrifying spray bottle monster and hides anytime I am near, which sucks, but he is very healthy and happy. could use some advice to sway me for getting one, or continuing on the way I am.

note: I have a large hibiscus and 2 pothos plants. The hibiscus requires frequent misting to stay healthy, so would I still have to mist by hand if I have the MistKing system

Thanks as always!

You don't HAVE to use a misting system if you are around enough every day to mist as necessary (not just for drinking but to maintain humidity). After all, people kept chams for many years before auto misting systems hit the market. If you run into problems maintaining cage humidity at a dry time of year it can help because you can set it to mist on whatever interval you need without having to wet down the cage entirely by hand.

I am no expert as I do not yet have my chameleon, however for me the automatic misting system is worth every penny.

First of all I live in a dry climate and would have to mist 3-5 a day to keep the humidity from dropping too drastically. I work all day and there is no one else that can mist for me. Also, If i were to go on a trip or was otherwise unable to be there to mist the cage, I won't need to rely on someone else (probably without chameleon knowledge) to care for my guy.

Second, The mist from a MistKing system is MUCH finer than you can find from any hand mister. This is much more gentle on the chameleon and will not terrify them like your current mister does. Thus you do not need to be the "Spray Bottle Monster."

Third, I will have a good drainage system in place, so I can mist a bit heavier for those plants that require it, and know that any excess water will exit the cage.

Fourth, I am ALL about automation! The less I have to do to keep the chameleon happy, the more I can enjoy my happy chameleon.

The misting systems can be fairly expensive, but compared to everything else we spend on these beauties, it really isn't all that much.

Actually, not necessarily so. Those personal cooler Misty Mates produce a very very fine mist. The key to their cooling is the evaporation of smaller water droplets. Misty Mate offers a larger sized hand pressurized mister with a longer tube and clip that will spray quite a while before needing re-pressurizing. I've used them on frog terrariums.

I have had a healthy cham without a mister and now have a healthy cham with one... I chose to get a Mist King because of being able to mist for a longer period of time without getting hand cramps and to be able to mist when I am not there. I really like mine but you could definitely survive without one.

Carlton nailed it! Not necessary but I find that it made a huge difference. My first misting of the day runs for about 4 min and my Chams love it. I find that the longer mist session will stimulate them to drink. I dont know about you but I would ned Popeye arms to mist for 4 min lol.

Thanks for the help. I think I will continue on by hand as I have the time during the day. I work in the late afternoons. But will want to get a MistKing in the near future, I would really like to handle him at least every now and then, and by him being so afraid of myself with the bottle, maybe it will ease him if I am only putting my hands in for food and cleaning.
