how in the heck...

I've got heat lights, UVB lights, dripper, and now I wanna hang plants from the top of my LLLreptile 24x24x48 screen cage.. seems heavy on the screen.. what have my fellow brilliant members come up with.. :)

I went to walmart and purchased "cup hooks" (small hooks, that are threaded, and of the size that would be appropriate for hanging a cup from,I guess?)

Anyhow, I took and drilled two very small pilot holes in the front two corners, and dead center in the back, of the framing. I screwed in my "cup hooks" and took 550 cord from them, to the pothos.

It works great, and hasnt failed for over 6 months now.

The three cords also give places for the cham to sit. I wrap them in pothos vines, and they are about invisible.

I dont put anything on the screen period, except maybe a basking light.

A linear style UVB strip will fit across the corner if it wont cross horizontally.
You can then set the dripper on top of the UVB fixture. :)

I appreciate it snake. :) long time no talk. Good idea :) and I wanna say there called cup hooks in accordence to there shape? I use them ti hang my basking domes from above. Ae of now my UVB is two spirals in a compact top.. not the best I know.. fixture coming soon.
Like 4 days soon. I was thinking a square wood frame that sat on the top rails with a couple cross members and threading 50lbs fishing line through the screen to the crossmembers? Just a thought. I've got some metal wire shelving that snaps together ill put between crossmembers to set lights on.
My plan seems complex and full of troubleshooting so I wanted other ideas :)

Can ya pop up a pic of wat ur sayin? I think ive got It but I wanna see

I got some small pieces of wood and layed them over the frame on the top of the cage. then screwed some hooks through the screen into the wood and it works great, been going a year strong. heres some pix

Hello

Hope this helps!

I dig the idea for plant hanging for sure! But the lights would scare me as far as fire hazard..

Ur cham is stunning btw :)

No fire hazard, the light is a 40w and the fixture is really big so the bulb itself sits a good 3-4 inches away from the screen/wood plank.

Thanks! i will tell him you said so :D

Yeah, Ive been hella busy
Hope all is well.

Whatever they are called, and for whatever reason, the hook pictured here is what I wound up using.

(which also seems like a good idea)

There are pics somewhere, Ill try and find them.

Plenty of people seem to use the CFLs without issue. I prefer a cheap($10?) HD shop fixture, that will hold a 6500k as well ;)

(Ill never forget looking at the package to open it, and seeing them labeled as "cup hooks" It was like, "I cant even, I dont even..." )

We all get busy no worries friend :) you see im a senior now! Happened yesterday very exciting..
Yes yes this are the hooks I thought u ment. I have a cheapo fluorescent holder 18" but payday will get me the bulb! Damn 26 dollar bulb... I'll come up with something extravagantly over done and post pics for ya :)

If you look at the last pics in this album (which is in reverse order:confused:) you can see the hook, the installment of said hook/s, and the pothos hanging.

LOL

I just turn mine upside down in the cabinet.

Glad it was helpful. It is supposed to be a "stick by stick" build for my jackson. (thats why its so dense)

There are vids if you havnt seen them:

(this one cracks me up at 01:30 lol :p
I think its of that build, or a similar one?

I have changed her enclosure tons of times, but the hanging pothos has always been there. I think she really likes the cover it gives, and the "canopy" it creates.

Wonderful video my man :) good music! So I wasn't gonna go that thick with my male veiled. Should it be that thick? Or do Jacksons like it thick?..... Please don't misinterpreted that last part..

Well, mine seems to like dense cover all over, with little opening to peak/crawl in and out of. She spends most of her time sitting in these little "clearings". She is also smaller than a panther or vieled. I know my panther likes his big open areas for the most part. Its important to provide lots of different types of areas or "micro-habitats" in the enclosure though. If you see that they like one feature better than another, there may be a reason for it. (like one area is too dense for them the get through comfotably, or too hot, or to open, or to whatever)
So it MAY need to be changed, or at least you may be able to make better use of the space. However, some areas they need, but for only small amounts of time during the day. So, just because they hardly use an area, doesnt mean it should be taken out or changed. You can tell what the cham does and doesnt like though, just keep an eye on it, and get to know it. Think in gradients, and use logic.
The more micro-environments they have though, the more options for heat/uvb/RH/ect regulation they will have, and the better they can take care of themselves. :)

Thank u for the insight soild snake its been a pleasure :). I will be sure to keep u posted on my new creation

Cup hooks were named in the 50's, they would be added to the inside of the cabinet, bottom of the shelve above to hang the coffee cups to save space.

We have remodeled more than our share of 50's homes, they all had them..

Another idea: I used a straight stick and zip tied it with 4-5 zip ties to the top of my cage, on the inside. Then i can hang a few things from there, including my pothos, and it doesnt hurt the cage as much because it distributes the weight across the whole cage top.

Thank u :) I think Im gonna go with something like that :)
