How to encourage a chameleon to drink

I bought home my first panther chameleon yesterday and as of yet havent seen him drink a thing, I cared for him at the pet shop I bought him from as I work there and he was drinking there all though he was drinking from standing water regardless of being sprayed 2/3 times a day,
Any advice to try get him drinking he seems a little fearful still as the enclosure is 3 times the size of what hes used to.
Thanks in advance:)

Spray with warm water not cold
let him settle in he's probably a bit shocked
use the same thing he was drinking from in the shop
I didn't see my panther drink for months, as long as his poo is good he must be getting enough water (my guy was licking the condensation from the fogger running) now he drinks from a rodent bottle , the type with the pin that hangs down. Put it right by the fogger so when he licks the condensation one drip was always there, now he just uses the bottle or licks lips/leaves if having a spray

Brilliant thank you! I think he is pretty shocked so ive just had as little contact as possible and not fed him yet as i know he ate loads the day he came home with me. His poo was fine this morning so i know he isnt dehydrated yet and he has access to running water and im spraying him so hopefully he should drink soon. Thanks for your help

If by access to running water, you mean a dripper, then that is great. Make sure if you are using a catch basin for the drainage that it is covered with screen or very shallow. You would not want your little guy to fall in it and drown. He is just getting used to his surroundings, so give him some time to get settled in. Many chameleons are shy drinkers and their keepers rarely see them drink. Sometimes if mine are drinking and I walk up they will stop. Funny little creatures they are! Keep misting the cage down also. Some like it and some don't!

At the moment i am using an exoterra rock fountain as I could not get hold of a dripper but I am making sure I am cleaning it thoroughly every day as I know they harbour bacteria but I wanted him to have access to water at all times and I have been keeping an eye on the humidity but he also has water on the leaves at the moment so I hope he is drinking that when He is settled I will get him into a warm shower so I know hes hydrated, think im probably just worrying too much as hes my first chameleon! Thank you for your help!

When i kept panthers & yemens, i fed them all by hand with a syringe, as well as misting a couple of times a day. Though to be fair i did this with all mine from an early age. Might be hard going trying to get a male veiled with attitude, to drink from a syringe :D

I personally think your right to worry Rachel, or at least keep a very close eye on how much fluid they take. Doesn't take long for a chameleon that isn't drinking regularly, to become dehydrated. Especially in warm weather.

A constant drip onto leaves is a pretty easy way to convince them to drink. Also lots of mistings in the cage to keep the humidity up and little water droplets on the leaves.

If you have live plants, that's another way to help get hydration as they'll eat the leaves sometimes...

Also, note that a lot of people have never seen their chameleons drink! The best way to tell if you're cham is hydrated is the white part of their poop, attached to the regular brown part. If it's reddish or not there at all, you know your cham isn't drinking.

It may take a few weeks or even a month or more before your cham is comfortable enough to eat or drink with you around and about.

Chameleons are methodical and patient creatures. As their keepers, you must be also. Doing so will yield rewards. :D

I found with my guyz the best way to stimulate drinking is to simply dump the water on their heads!!
I use a quart misting bottle, with the noozle adjusted for a coarse spray (they will run from a mist) and spray them directly from above in short bursts of the trigger handle, like a gentle rain.

If they are thirsty, I see their mouth start opening and closing.
They stand still with eyes closed while I spray, and move their mouth until they have had enough.
Then, when they raise their heads, I know they are finished drinking :)

Awesome! I am going to invest in a dripper system and a better spray bottle and when he has settled in il get him in a nice warm shower if he needs it but ive seem him drink a good amount so im happy :D
