How can I improve my photos for the contest?
Someone asked me this recently, and although there are faaar better people with better experience to answer this, none of them have come forward so, I'll post some things that I personally try to follow for entering this contest. If anyone else would like to contribute do so.
Here are some tips for better general photo taking. They apply to any photo taking but should be used for this as well.
Resize you photo to 900 x 600px, because the Full view is so large it does a few things;
Composition:
Blurry:
Animal subjects in specific:
Backgrounds:

good guide lines. enough info to help people but not confuse them. very well put together. just remember know the rules then find a way to brake them. everyone can know the rules but braking them is what can sets you apart.

I think this would be a good opportunity to open the floor for critique for people who would like views on a photo that they have put some effort into, so as to improve on the next. I usually take my photos to frtiends or a forum, but if this picks up it would be nice to have some people with chameleon experience to help.
Constructive criticism is the process of offering valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of others, usually involving both positive and negative comments, in a friendly manner rather than an oppositional one. In collaborative work, this kind of criticism is often a valuable tool in raising and maintaining performance standards. -Wiki

Wow Will, you really are very good at explaining this to everyone! I really like how you used examples! Thanks for all the tips. I just got a new cam and haven't really sat down to figure it out yet except the odd snap...I just know there's huge capabilities with it, but to no avail yet...

This picture was taken one morning in full sun, about 11:00am, flash off. This is pretty much one of the first times I have ever not used my flash on my camera...I guess because I rarely take pictures in full sun. Anyways, my ability to snap a good picture is completely by chance...I just wanted to see what you thought of this one!
