Horizontal Branches

I have noticed several screen cages with horizontal branches that look as if they are being held in place by magic! How are these being secured to the screen without damaging the cage? Thanks!

I used 1/2" dowels cut exactly to the width of my screen cage, and put thumb-tacks, pushed into the ends from the outside of the cage, into each end of the dowel. So far they seem to work great! Worst case, the dowel falls, but the tack on the outside of the cage will fall to the floor, not inside the cage.

My 1 yr big veiled uses them and so far so good! I even have big fake vines hanging from them.

If you cut the sticks just a little bit larger than the cage you can carefully wedge them between the screens.

Fishing line or the thin green crafting wire also works well if you want to tie them to the sides of the cage.

Thumb tacks like someone mentioned if they are cut to exact size, i personally use small nails (they stay flush with screen cage and no damage) :)

I used a very small drillbit to drill tiny holes through the ends of my sticks. I cut them to size and then drill a hole in each end, and before the chameleon is in the enclosure I put fishing line through the holes on each end and tie it off to the screen.

It does look like magic.

This image is taken directly from http://muchadoaboutchameleons.blogspot.com/ which is Olimpia's blog. I've got so much advice from there. Most of it I'd already learned, but she goes more into detail and actually explains why/how/what etc.

And here is my cage using the method described at the top

amazing! thanks for not being afraid to ask this question, ridgeback...been wondering the same thing myself.

Nobody's had any trouble with fishing line breaking or knots loosening?

Thanks for all the great suggestions! I am going to redo Omar's cage and want to add more climbing branches for him. As far as the knots in fishing line coming undone, I make jewelry and sometimes use a very light weight acrylic thread and just put a little jeweler's glue on any knots. Since the knots are outside the cage does anyone think it would hurt to do that if the knots don't look like they will stay secure?
