Hi all, Im currently considering purchasing a gravid pair of C.Jonstonii, WC, i know what im getting into and i plan to pay vet bills for fecals, parasite treatment etc. My question is the pair is gravid, anyone have experience with these guys or incubation? any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Danny

Have a good vet lined up in advance. They may look like a Jacksons but in my opinion are not as hardy. Good luck with them. They are beautiful.

I just have to post this info for you If you care? I saw them when those first posted, and since I looked back on them, One pic was removed, That Picture and that Cham had a very large lump on its right hip, obviously parasite! anyhow Have them send you pic's of the ones you are to recieve? And yes you are ready to treat, and know the circumstances. Once you get these guys under control and Bred,,,,,, I want one from ya :), So you already got 1 pre order.:D

I'd love to see what you are thinking about buying but I can never find anything on Kingsnake. Do you have a link? Thanks

At kingsnake, home page, click on classifieds, then go down to Chameleons, click that, and wham there you will be.

Yea I do buy off of those classifieds for, at times different breeds or WC for new blood to my projects. But I do advise, only good herpers should buy from these rare WC animals. As they are moved fast, by those individuals or companies selling them. Allmost always, absolutly no true care has been given. I'm not talking about some of our good companies that post there, just the ones "you know" are moving animals for the quick dollar. Not a reason not to buy, just a note of caution to the inexperienced!

I think Titan made some excellent points. I too was very interested but after seeing that pic that has apparently been removed....if that's a good example of what is available....I'm not sure I'd be willing to spend the money without seeing pics of the exact animals I was getting. Even then....

geeze that's making me secong guess myself, I wouldn't want to spend all that money for nothing, I really appreciate the help though guys.

Though I have not kept them myself I know a few people who have had / do have them. A tip that I would pass along to you is that they seem to like to have a wind set upon them; a sweeping fan set of medium seems to fit the bill.

idk if I'm ready for something like this yet, I may just wait until next years shipment, because I was also considering an oustaler pair from cham. Company, but it's still all just talk now.

Thats funny you say that thats how i keep all my rudis(sternfeldi)they really thrive this way guess its a montaine thing .

Chad, do you know anyone who still has imports alive out of last year's shipment? Word I received was that most perished quite fast, which is not uncommon with this species. Even back in the very early 90s Johnston's were known to come in good groups and bad groups where not even the most experienced cham keepers could save them.

They're still a very worthwhile species to establish in captivity. I'd love to see someone here have success with them. I know multi-generation propagation has been done in the past, it's just starting with healthy animals that's the problem.

If the option of just gravid females was available then id try to save the eggs even if i couldnt save the female but i dont think i want to spend 350 on a pair to just save the eggs, thanks guys for helping me make a decision on these guys, they are VERY interesting, hopefully CB's and CH's will become more readily available.

I bought a pair last year took them to the vet and they didn't last a month in an outdoor enclosure. They do not adjust well to captivity or respond well to treatments most are so stressed out by the time they get to you that success with them is limited that's why you never see any CB for sale they don't exist. I'm not saying it's imposable to keep these guys in captivity just difficult to get them past the break in period.

Lots of great advice here! lets hope someone here that has ordered some are successful in the longevity and breeding. It sure would be nice for some Captive Hatched Or Born  Jonstoni's thriving in America!
So for the one that likes the challange of getting there, may you have great success. What a real awsome little species!
