Hey everyone we have been working on getting these Katydids for a year now and it looks like we are going to get a nice colony started this year.... They are called Red Eyed Devil Katydids (Neobarrettia spinosa) they are like 4 in. long and as wide as my thumb:) they are huge and awesome. they are carnivorous like mantises they like crickets lol and the spikes are soft. I think they will make a great feeder to add to bugs they make my florida giant katydids look so small and a dubia female look like a cricket lol.

What the?? I've never seen anything like that!! Of course, I only work here mon-fri. :/

You don't have to sell me any, just accidentally dump some into my cricket keeper... That away you'll have no legal issues! :)

lol there is no legal issues as long as you are a texan they are native so its ok to have them :);)
Whoa! That thing is bada$$ Lee! Are the nymphs small enough to feed month olds?
yeah man I haven't had them lay yet but from what I read they are the size of a pin head cricket when they hatch :)

I would be careful when feeding those out. We have got Jerusalem Crickets here in central California and the only reason I don't feed them out is they are too formidable. My past Furcifer oustaleti stayed away from feeding on them and they eat everything.

Holy !#$% those are running around texas? Those things are huge!

So why arent you holding the bug lee?

Whoa! What do you mean "formidable"? Did they fight back? Was your oustie full grown?

Yeah my panthers will not touch a black cricket they will run or starve before eatting them. I was just testing a reaction to them and this feeder today and ranger was climbing out of his cage to get to it. As soon as I get cb babies from them I will let you know what they think about them. They eat lettuce too I think they eat whatever you feed them because I feed them lettuce for 3 days and then I read they can be carnivorous to other bugs so I tryed crickets and they eat those to  lol.

Good luck, they're almost impossible to breed and vicious. They'll attack anything that even looks edible. Mine would tackle prey 2 and 3 times their size.

He was an adult wild caught and ate lizards regularly. He saw one Jerusalem cricket and seemed to say I think 'm going to pass.

Lee how does the juveniles katydids look? You may want to feed them out instead of the adults.

Lol because I dont want to loose it they are fast real fast :) I need to post a pic of my giant wide horn hisser in my hands that thing kind of freaks me out its even bigger. And yeah man they are all around and that isn't nothing we got stick bugs that are about 8in. Long and as thick as my ring finger. I am going to collect some of those this weekend and start a colony with them too :).... Also we have a grass hopper here that I haven't caught yet because they fly really well that is bigger then this katydid :) everthing is bigger in TEXAS lol.
