Herc & Megana: Melleri slugfest
NEITHER ONE GOT HURT
Hercules and Megana went at it yesterday. I saw Hercules in his breeding colors, flapping his lobes like crazy at Megana. The camera was on hand so I grabbed it and set it for video. It was obvious immediately that Megana was not in the mood. Hercules is on the left, in the more boldly striped body. Megana is to the right. I caught most of the boxing match. He holds his own for a few seconds, but, in the end, she slaps the snot out of him and they both withdraw (Megana to the left and Herc to the right). From what I've read and been told this can be part of normal behavior for some pairs. These 2, Herc is the male and Megana the female, cohabit a free range. They've been together since this winter. Hercules was purchased locally and his past is unknown. Megana just entered the country from Tanzania this past winter. She came in gravid and, obviously, knows a thing or two about boxing. ![]() I did not speed up the video. This is how it happened, really quick and dirty and then it's suddenly over and they go back to acting like slow chameleons again. You have to be really quick with the camera to get anything. NEITHER ONE GOT HURT (except maybe Hercules' pride) ![]() FULL SIZE VERSION: http://s285.photobucket.com/player.s...fs=1&os=1&ap=1

Very interesting for you to have captured this behavior. It's crazy to see them all worked up, and then go back to their usual docile selves. Thanks for posting it!

I've never laughed that hard at chameleons. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It was some sort of chameleon, treetop, MMA. In the left tree, weighing in at 220g, wearing the black and white trunks is.... HEEEEEEEERK "The Chop Man" *crowd roars* In the right tree, weighing in at 250g, wearing the green trunks is...... MEEEEEGANA "The Golf Clap and Slapper" *crowd roars again* |

Megana's got a mean left hook, too. I will check them both tomorrow for bruises, but don't expect to find any. It was mostly alot of wild swings and show.

Cool vid! I haven't seen a boxing match like that yet. When either male here tries to court Chaucer they don't even get that close before she goes into full rhino attack mode.
Merlin on the other hand just climbs on the male's back and walks away when she isn't in the mood.I really need to figure out how to work the video mode on my new camera. Thanks for Sharing, Sandy!

Oh, that won't stop Herc. He'll be swaggering at her tomorrow. "Check out my tuxedo, baby!"
She didn't exactly chase him down to the ground, so... I suspect she's just testing him. If she really wanted him gone, it would have been a lot longer, and she would not have let him stay on the underside of that branch. When melleri are serious about territory disputes, they make sure the opponent is well away. Keep an ear out for those thrashing sounds, you might get to vid the arm wrestling behavior!
