Help!! Vet??

Is it worth the risk to take a WC chameleon to the vet?

She is SO stressed, constantly brown, and from all I've posted on here the general consensus is that she may have parasites. She was recently WC and I've only had her one month.

The vet is an hour away and obviously super expensive. $90 for a visit and $52 for a fecal sample plus then any meds!

I ordered panacur online that should arrive today. I am moving next Friday 3 hours away which will be another stress on her.

What would you do?

i would say like i was told, take the time to get her to a vet. my closest vet is 2 to 3 hrs. away so i opted to look for a regular vet that has had some experiance with herps. i have a veild that has mbd and i took him to the vet yesterday and got him some help. and i feel like it was a good move in the right direction. even though the vet didnt know a whole lot about the animal he was still a good bit of help, and i was able to get some of what i needed. a vet of any sort is better than no vet at all.

You need to take into account how much vet bills can cost BEFORE purchasing an animal. You are responsible for her life and you owe to her to give her the appropriate care and medical treatment.

I'm sorry maybe I didn't make that clear.

IDC about time & money obviously, I love my chameleon I would pay and drive whatever to help her survive. The TIME might hurt her, not me.

My fear is that the vet itself will kill her. Do you take just wild caught chameleons to vets?

She is not used to humans much less travel and we have a major move coming up in a week which is another hugely stressful event. I just don't want to overload her with stress.

She has been in her current health condition for a month and has not deteriorated at all since I got her. I just wasn't sure if the vet was worth the risk for that situation.

She needs a fecal BEFORE you dose with Panacur. You might not even need panacur but one of the other meds for any of the other types of parasites. Do you know how to properly dilute and administer the meds? Could you fill out the How to ask for Help info to help other determine if it is a husbandry issue?

I already did that. She really has nothing seriously wrong with her at all. Her eyes aren't sunken, her legs are fine, temperature/humidity/cage size/supplements etc are fine. They are just supposed to be crazy colors and she is mostly brown. I had read that carpet chameleons may tend to be brown if they are from arid parts of Madagascar.

But she was just imported and bought from FLchams. Most people seemed to think that she only had one dose of parasite treatment and needed the rest of it. It was suggested I give her a panacur in the meantime and when she destresses more to take her to a vet.

I just worry about her. I didn't know she was WC and don't believe in that at all. I would never have bought her. It is cruel IMO to take animals away from the wild. I feel very responsible for her.

Thanks for your thoughts. I will probably just take her in. I just didn't want to pay to have a trip to the vet kill her.

This seems like 2 contradicting statements to me... take him or her to the vet and let them decide... you could also do more harm than good if you don't know how to give the medication...

Have you talked to FL Chams? They would be your best source for help right now.
