Hi, I just bought my first panther chameleon. I was was told by the pet shop it was a male. They have always used the same breeder and never had any issues. However, Im worried that they got it wrong as it looks like a female. It is months old and here are two pictures.

I looked at your email and am still a little on the fence. In one pic you see a good white lip line and a bump, and then no bumps in the other pics. One pic shows the tell tale start of the orange / pink colors. Let he/she :)D) walk around somewhere outside the cage and in a safe enviroment away from the flourecent bulbs. Give it a few minutes to relax and let natural unstress colors emerge. However, it may take a little while if it never gets out of the cage. Just stay back a little and wait for the photo. This one is a stumper. I hate that age.

I agree, it is difficult to say for sure this with one. Some more pictures outside of the cage would really help. I want to say male but I'm very confident in my answer. More pictures please :D

Thank you guys, here are more pictures. I have only just got hihim/she 5 days ago and worried about stressing him. I tried to get him on my finger and he stayed away from me for a day. I will keep trying with the pictures though.

Thanks.

If my life was on the line, I would say female. Like I said earlier, I am in the doctors office doing presurgery stuff. I will look at everything on my pc at home, or load up on the big screen tv, if needed. We will figure it out today. I should have an answer in about 5 hours from now. Try to photo just the tail and about 1" of the back body from about 6" away. Email them to me if needed.

Hi guys I have manage to get some more pics. I hope this helps. I also got him to come on my hands today, although it only lasted a minute before he panicked.

Based on the last set of pictures, I'm going to say Male. You can see a bulge at the tail base and coloration is starting to come in as well. The previous pictures absolutely made it difficult to try and nail it though!

OH thanks for the reply. At first didnt know what I was looking for and then I started to see a small bulge but it was difficult getting a clear picture until now. However, having someone with more experience confirming is always best, so thank you.

I cant believe how well he has settled in. He is desperate to get out of the vivarium every day now lol.

Thanks again.

Thanks WowBango!

He is my first Cham, well my first reptile actually. So I'm glad I chose a panther chameleon. It has been a joy caring for him and watching him grow. I'm amazed at the change after a month already :)
