gular edema??

Hey I recently read a thread posted by carol5208 who posted this thread https://www.chameleonforums.com/omg-i-got-him-77902/ .
in her thread she talks about her new guy having gular edema and I noticed my Mitsio Sonny has what looks like a chest "man boobs" . When you touch this spot it feels like it could be fluid under the skin. I am kicking my self for not remembering to bring this up at the vet friday night. But we were there to bring in a fecal and have his tongue checked out because instead of shooting it. he chases his feeders and his tongue is only pushed out a inch and he scoops up his feeders. the vet concluded that he had what looked like an old injury. a peice of his tongue is actually missing. . although he is still eating in his own special way :D . now I am concerned about this possible gular edema?! Is this something I should take him to the vet for?? Does he need Medication to fix this. or surgery??...... please help!

I will take some photos and upload the in a minute.

Edema is caused by either too much or too little Vit A.

This is corrected by changing the nutrition of the animal.
Vit A issues are also linked to tongue issues.

I would fill out the "how to ask for help" form, with a strong attention to detail in the supplement, and gutloading/feeder part.

Thanks I will do that now.

His setup sounds pretty good. But your gutloading is not so great. Those orange cubes are pretty much useless for nutrition, as are potatoes. Carrots and oranges are only okay when they are given in addition to good calcium sources as the staple. You don't have a good calcium source in your gutload, which is needed. Mustard greens, turnip greens, collard greens and dandelions are all excellent sources of calcium and should be the staple of your gutloading. My link on gutloading in my signature has more information.

As for the gular edema, there is almost no actual information published on it as to cause or treatment. It doesn't appear to be a major health concern in itself, but since underlying cause is largely unknown it's hard to say really...I'm on a hunt for more info so I'll let you know what I find, if anything.

So has he recently developed the edema?
Or did he have it when you received him?

Follow ferrets advice on the gutloading.

I would very much like to see a video of him feeding.

How experienced was the vet with chameleons?
Does part of his tongue look missing to you?

no his toungue dont look missing to me or drew from chameleon nation he looked at him and said vit a defeciant just like i thought it could be our vet said she is pretty experianced she seems to know whats going on but i think her expeerience is limited imo

linsay forgot to mention we also use spinach and kale in our cricket bin lately not sure about nutrition but that is the greens i have been using as i was told to add some greens to my cricket diet

Kale is ok. But avoid feeding spinach (and broccoli) becuse they contain high amounts of oxalates that can hinder calcium absorption
