Graphic necropsy Parsonii

Some pics of one of my male Parsonii.
Bacterial infection that had moved into the heart valves.
Liver coloration is a little off and kidney's were in pretty good shape.
Mouth was in excellent shape with no abcesses or infections which would have me conclude that it was water or food source. I am pretty meticulous when it involves food and water so my vet thinks he had been harbouring this bacteria before I got him. Sad for sure, but I will take the experience as something I can learn from.

Sorry to hear and see that this happened Chuck. It is always sad to lose one but especially hard when you have taken such care to make sure that they are healthy and happy.

Sorry to hear that Chuck, but thank you for sharing the pics. This is certainly a good topic of disucussion (and sorry to say at your expense...:()

I was looking forward to those pics Chuck. As graphic as they may be they help us understand not only the anatomy of a chameleon better but also what a chameleon's body can look like when affected with illnesses.

I'm sorry for your loss. Are those the fat pads in that first pic? I did a necropsy on Lola and Dr. Greek said her fat pads where huge. They were about the size of my palm. She was a melleri.

How do you know it was an infection in the heart...did the vet do the autopsy?
Did anyone test to see what the bacteria was?
What's the little black mark near the ribs in the second picture?

I normally get my mechanic to perform the necropsy but he was busy.
Dr. Scott Stahl performed the necropsy, one of the best herp vets in the country. The infection was pseudomonas. As far as the black mark on the muscle of the body wall, that is some gall bladder leakage that commonly occurs after death.
