Geoffery eats a mantis

The mantis was standing on the far bottom right branch when it was snatched up. Unfortunately, I was a fraction of a second late on the trigger and missed the long tongue shot. I figured since the mantis was posing so nicely, that it was still a keeper.

Thanks.

I think this looks wonderful the way it is.
What lens did U use??
Just the ol' standard Canon 28-135mm. Shot at 28mm. I really need a good super wide like the 10-22mm. I've had my finger on the "buy" button lately, but always mange to not click it. I know I will eventually click it, so I might as well just do it now so I can be putting it to use sooner than later. :)

Very nice pic! Love how the mantis looks like he is in the defense stance....probably thinking, HOLY CRAP, what was that!

Thanks.

Yep, I know the feeling all to well.
The pain and guilt does go away after a few paydays ;)

So, rather then torture yourself sitting at your pc, thinking, this is a really
wasteful thing to be doing with my money, and then you press that button,
and for a moment, you get a heat flash and feel like you swallowed a ball
of lead.
But after a few weeks of owning your new toy, it all goes away, and you feel better :)

Normally I would agree with that, but I have some ideas shot at the 10mm range where there's some distortion, but not real bad like my 8mm fisheye. I've actually been wanting it for years.

Geoffrey eats better than I do! I'm happy that he got so lucky in the owner lottery.
He does eat well, but he has slowed down a considerable amount in the last month or two. I wish I would have seized the opportunity to get more tongue shots shortly after I got him from you, instead of waiting. Here's a pic I took yesterday.....he's stretched out and normally doesn't look so skinny. I bought this Wahlbergii mantis to replace the one he ate in the really good tongue shot I captured awhile back. I told the guy I bought it from why I was buying it.....for some good pictures of it in a threat pose with the beautiful spread wings. Well, if you look closely at the wing tips, they are gone and would not make for any kind of good picture, so I used it for a feeder/pic too. I had another ghost mantis up there a few minutes earlier and he just ignored it. As soon as I placed this one up, he was all over it. This mantis did lay an ooth a couple of weeks ago. Maybe it will hatch and I can raise a supply of feeders for him.
