Free Ranging Gone Wild

Everything was going well for the first 4 months of free ranging. Phineas seemed happy and kept to his FR and the blinds.

Then about two months ago he started to become interested in the bird.

I don't know how to tell him that he has grown too big for the blinds!

I came home from work one day and he was IN the birdcage WITH the bird!

He has also taken to sunning in front of the door.

I don't know how to explain that sometimes it is too cold to go out.

At the end of the day, he's usually back in his FR.

I never realized how confident and independent he would become!

Hi Deb :),
That has to be the best pictorial story EVER!
What a smile you have given me this morning.
makes you wonder how solitary they really are sometimes ( just giggling here, no backlash needed from other posters!)
How does your bird feel about him?
Thank you, thank you, thank you
Anne

P.S. what an attractive and clean fr you have :)

Hahah!
Love it.
I have the same things going on.
My male veiled has decided that the ferret cage is a fun place to chill.
Being IN the ferret cage is even cooler, cuz i get to crawl on this soft fuzzy thing that doesnt ever wake up.
And that visiting my 'brother' a male hoehnelli named kermit, and pooing on top of his cage, is the funnest thing ever!

I love how hes giving you that look of, i so fit in these blinds, and i look good.

very cool.
and I love the free range set up.

thats soo cool! id be soo scared of my cham getting lost and never finding him again. but yours seems to have the personality of a small dog :p love it!

Well, I wouldn't say he gets along with the bird. I actually think he is trying to intimidate the bird to leave HIS territory. The bird could care less. Also let me say that I surrounded the bottom of the bird cage with plexiglass so he couldn't climb into it. I never imagined he would shimmy up the corners in the 1/4 inch gap. I took care of that and he can't climb in there now. That is not a risk I would ever want to take! I also have the doorways to the living room and dining room sectioned off so he can't get into the whole house. I would never find him!

I forget what it's called, but people use it to make outdoor signs. It's very light and made of plastic. Easy to cut. You can get it at Home Depot or Lowe's. I just cut it the width of the doorway and made it about 2 feet high. Then used white duct tape to attach it in the doorway. And yea, I have to step over it every time I walk around the house.

Haha yea i can see how a relationship between a bird and a lizard could go very wrong.

I just keep my cham room door shut, so they only get one room of my place.
but that didnt stop kermit my male hoe, from shimmying under the damn door and walking 20 feet down a hallway (cat and dog loose) and ending up on my tv cables in my hallway.... 3 days after i got him.

The bird loves loud and/or fast moving creatures. Puppies, cats, ferrets, and dogs. He loves drama. He loved to call the ferrets and cats and when they came he would yell at them or laugh. So the cham is kind of, well, not too fun or interesting for him. The only time the bird reacted was when Phineas climbed onto one of the bird's hanging toys. The bird took the top chain of the toy and began shaking it violently. Phineas just seemed to think the wind was blowing or something and just kept walking around on the toy. Of course, this annoyed the bird even more.

And thanks for the kind words, Anne.

I really like what you did with the roll around cart. Where did you find it at? Looks like maybe something you could find at a restuarant/retail supply place?

I ordered it from ULINE, in PA. It's 5x3x8. I couldn't find any shelving locally that was 3 feet wide. And, well, once I became obsessed with building this free range, I just had to have it! It is working out really good so far. But, it wasn't cheap. Nothing is too good for a cham though!

great little story you made there, i loved it. my favorite pic is the close-up of him looking out the window, he has such a forlorn look goin on.

can he still climb onto the bird cage? im getting horrible thoughts of the parrot getting a hold of his tail or something else within reach, yikes

Very nice. I will check the catalog, I order shipping supplies from them regularly. Prices are usually good but they tend to spank you on the shipping. Thanks!
