Exclamation Found Wild Mantis?

Today I found a praying mantis outside on my screen door. Are there any good websites to find out what kind it is? Does anyone know what kind lives in Maryland? If I go outside to find more where should I look, will i even have a chance in finding more? Any help will be great. Thank you

So... you're taking your chameleon for a walk.... just minding your own business.... your cham's tongue flies out.... he chomps... chomp chomp..... Did YOU touch the mantis. I think not!
<G>

Seriously though....
There's usually a good reason for nature restrictions. Do you know why?

They are protected here in N.Y. also, they are a beneficial insect. I bought 3 egg sacks last spring hatched them out and released them in my wooded yard. I See them all the time now.

I'm surprised that you haven't heard of the New Jersey Special-Ops Mantis Protection unit! The other day my friend got taken away because he was seen looking at a mantis. What's "inforce" anyways?

He is still out there don't worry. It was huge and mean looking so I didn't want to get close to it. New bugs that I haven't touched yet freak me out a bit. It looked pretty amazing though, I've never seen one up close. Are they legal in Maryland? Where can you find out?

They really dont enforce it but if a police officer or spca or animal control see you handleing one or killing one you get a pretty big fine from what i hear.

I always thought that there was just one species of mantid in NY, NJ PA, DEL and MD. IO could be wrong, but I personally have only seen the "common" praying mantids in these areas.

I used to buy the pods and raise them for feeders. Chams go NUTS over them!
