Eye closed. Black and swollen

My male Yemen has been keeping his eye closed today and on closer inspection it would seem that his eye is swollen and dark underneath too. He has just had an operation to remove a cyst from his face so not sure whether this is related. It is a bank holiday here at the moment so won't be able to get him to a vet until tomorrow. He's a bit of a walking accident this one. He also managed to burn his spine last year.

Has anyone had any similar experiences and can offer any advice?
Thanks

Those types of bumps on the nose can cause eye problems. Were you given an oral antibiotic to give after the surgery? Is that a bug on the end of his face?

No that is the scar from where that abscess was removed from his chin last week. He has some stitches.

I have been given Meloxidyl but I believe that is just an anti-inflammatory. I have given him a good misting around the eye and he's drunk a lot of water now so he may have been a bit dehydrated. I will see how he is tomorrow.

The eye is a bit swollen and dark. Could it be an infection?

Sorry I thought you said it was on his nose and those growths go hand in hand with eye problems as they effect the sinuses and they are all connected. I think his eye should be looked at by the vet. It could be an infection but it is hard to tell

Aw

Aw poor thing he has been through so much I hope it goes away and maybe the puffiness under his eye is from a bug he ate or he got bitten from his food

You could also try rinsing the eye does he seem to puff it out when being misted and cleaning it by blowing water round it or is it puffing as he is breathing

Sorry for the delay.

So I gave him a proper misting, and all over the eye that was troublesome the night I originally posted and waited for the following morning.

In the morning I noticed his eye was opening more and was slightly less swollen so I held up from ringing my vet and carried on misting the area with warm water from the sprayer.

It now seems as if it has pretty much cleared up and he is not closing it anymore. The dark rings around his eyes seem to have disappeared too.

What is interesting is that he has started to shed so I am thinking maybe some shed may have got in his eye or inside his eyelid somehow?

Thanks

Just to update, his eye is giving him the same problems as described earlier again so I am taking him to the vets later. I will keep this thread updated in case others have similar problems in the future.

Hi everybody.

So have been going to and from from the vets who is stumped at the moment.

He sent off a swap to a lab where there was no traces of infection so this was baffling. Last week he suggested it may be because he is too close to the UV (which could have been a possibility as he wedges himself right next to the UV bulb). I amended the UV distance and changed his branches around and vet said to see how he got on for a few weeks.

Today I checked and his eye now seems red on the eyeball. This is very worrying and is infuriating as we don't know why this is happening. Does anyone have any further ideas? He is otherwise fine colour-wise and is showing no other signs of being unwell. He was slightly stressy earlier though which is not like him at all.

One thing I forgot to mention.. I use the Arcadia Slimline Vivarium Canopy D3+ T5 24W for my chameleons (I have mesh cages so use the stronger ones to penetrate the mesh.) My Panthers are fine but this Yemen is the only one suffering. Could this be too much UV for a Yemen? The vet is suspecting this also and I have moved the UV accordingly.
