Exo-Terra Monsoon

I dont have the unit yet but have a few questions. I would only want this unit to spray within a 12 hour period of the 24 hours in a day. So at night time the chameleon wont get sprayed with water and wake up from sleeping. I was wondering, if I have the knobs on the machine set to my settings I want (every 2 hours for 8 seconds) can I plug the monsoon into a timer and have it turn on at 7 am and then turn off at 7pm for a 12 hour period and when the timer turns it on in the morning will the monsoon's settings I have for it still be applied or erased from it being turned off? Also, when the monsoon is first turned on from the timer I have it plugged into, will the monsoon spray immediately? Or will it wait for 2 hours and then spray for however long I have it set to? I dont want the chameleon being startled by the mist as soon as it turns on because the monsoon will be hooked up to the timer I have my lights connected to. Any help will be greatly appreciate.

I also have contacted exo-terra themselves...awaiting a call back.

Timer works great

I have the Monsoon and same as you, only wanted it to spray during the day. I have a zoo-med 8 outlet timer with 4 outlets that follow the timer during the day and there are also 4 that are on all the time like a regular outlet.

The monsoon sprays immediately when the lights turn on in the morning and then it follows it's own settings during the 12 hour "day" time set with the timer.

I have mine set to run every 2 hours for 30 seconds, but I have a dry house caused by central air.

I ask Josh's Frog's all this and he said yes to everything I wanted even that it doesn't spray immediately when the monsoon turns on. That it will wait for the 2 hours I have the cycle set to and spray for however long I have it to. So thats a downer. Because it sprays as soon as it turns on, that's when the lights do...will this stress my chameleon out? He might be sleeping right in front of the nozzles...he might die from it...

It is not great but its not garbage. I had previously used mine inside when I was getting started. I put a timer exclusively for it, didn't trust its timer. I now useit for my outdoor cages. If you have the money get a mist king/aquazamp. I have a mist king and I love it.

I decided to get a seperate timer for the monsoon. I like the monsoon, I just hope it doesnt break down in a year...or EVER. I'll just have to take care of it.

i heard alot of horror stories about the monsoon, alot of good ones too but more bad but i havent heard any complaints about a mistking and theyre pretty much the same price.. i got the basic kit and it comes with a nice timer!! man that thing is legit lol..you can do seconds-hours..every day.. every other day.. just weekdays.. it has alot of setting on it and its 100.00 about the same price as a monsoon so i went with the mistking

They have a 2 year warrantee. I had one crap the bed and they replaced it, after a couple of emails.
The monsoon has a warranty? Where is it, in the box? How long did yours last till it stop working?

Also, I think with all models that have been updated with version 2.0+ they don't have the defects like the models when it was first released. I was going to go with a mistking as I read that the basic package, which is all I need was $100. But I need a misting system now, and the monsoon should be here in 2 days. And I like exo-terra brand, but lately its been hard to trust.

I have had three so far.

The first two both suffered from a design fault whereby the built in timer malfunctioned after a few months and randomly turned on, flooding my enclosure with excess water.

As I live in the UK, I use glass terrariums and this excess water was a severe problem, especially as it happened whilst I was away on holiday in Spain.

My chameleon was in the care of a friend at the time and I received a phone call to state that there was about 3 inches of water in the bottom as was that normal!

Anyway, the replacement unit had exactly the same fault after the same time period, after which I contacted Exo Terra. I was advised that the issue had been rectified and as long as I could get a replacement with new stock from the supplier all would be good...

Thus far it has been (fingers crossed).

When it works as it should I much prefer it to my previous system, due to its quiet operation and space-saving design.

I have a Monsoon and it is working fine. I have it spraying 2 enclosures. (now I have only had it for 4 months, but so far so good) If I had it to do over (knowing what I know now) I would most likely have gotten the mist king. it just has more accurate settings and a few other things that this one does not, but I was new and bring home the new baby, got what the store had to offer. :)

I have the monsoon and NEVER thought to put on a timer lol Thanks!! Ugh I am an idiot!! I kept my box and receipt if I have a problem, just use distilled water and you should be ok. I love mine and since I have two cages side by side I just use one nozzle in each cage and am very happy how it sprays.

I have it spraying to the top of their tree and then it drips down for them to catch. Working good so far but have heard some stories of it breaking on others I just have my fingers crossed!

Good Luck!!

Some things I have read to help make sure it doesn't break down is to,

1.) Do not fill through the provided filling hole, take the lid off and fill.
2.) Fill the water up to a point of 3 inches from the top of the reservoir.
3.) Do not fully tighten the fill cap so that not so much moisture is held in.

The main problem with them malfunctioning is the moisture getting into the electronic part of the machine and slowly ruining it. Exo-terra I guess doesn't do too well of a sealant job, so I will be taking these precautions. Besides that is build up's in the nozzles and possibly hoses. Distilled water and changing the tubing and nozzles every 6 months should help.
