Yes they are! I know there are some articles floating out there in these forums with reference to exo terra product, more specifically the coil bulbs, but they are considered quality product.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Exo Terra product is readily available in the States. I know it is here in Canada and I use them - 5.0 is usually used for chameleons unless you have a mesh enclosure - which in that case, use 10.0 .....

Read this thread: Repti-sun 5.0, Repti-glo 5.0 ? ? ?

The ReptiSun 5.0 is the best and safest UVB light available.

I use ExoTerra personally and other experienced cham owners use them as well - Reptisun is apparently a good one as well but I'm not ordering in the States when I get perfectly good ExoTerra ones locally.

I used ReptiGLO for over ten years with great success. I am now using the superior ReptiSUN. Both these brands of tube style bulbs are safe.

Thats funny you put that cause i had an exo terra coil bulb and my cham was lime green all the time but now i switched it out with a reptisun 5.0 and she seems a little darker green which if anything i have leared here is that that means they are stressed. I am hoping that a change of scenery is the problem and not the actual light (cause that reptisun housing and bulb were expensive)

Read this. Although Reptisun is apparently a good product now, I still prefer Exoterra. Use what you feel comfortable with after you have done some research.

Setting aside preferences of brand for a moment, what about 5.0 vs. 10.0? I have been using (Reptisun) 10.0 for some time, first for my dragons and now for my chams, as I had read that the effective distance of the 5.0 was about 12" whereas the 10.0 was more (I don't remember the exact number, but I think it was 18"-24").

Now, I know that there is no magic dividing line in the effective distance (as in: a 5.0 is not perfect at 11.5" and worthless at 12.") - it is a linear scale and the 12" point is the average of where the UV effectiveness passes below a certain threshold.

I tried to find a discussion on the matter, but struck out.

ETA: I should have looked harder. I found two threads (though still a bit nebulous):
exo terra 5.0 and 10.0?
reptisun

You cant set aside brand in this. The ReptiSun 10 has very different output from the ReptiGlo 10.

Have a look at this: http://www.testudo.cc/Pages/Table%202.html
