Dull color!

Hey everyone! I bought my first chameleon two weeks ago and like all owners, want to give him the best care I can. When I first bought the little guy he was this brilliant neon green color. Over the next couple days his color faded to a brown/green. Here are the facts:
Male Veiled, I'm guessing about 2 mo when I got him.
Cage: 10x12x20 Aquarium I turned on its side. Coconut husk substrate, live coffee and aloe plants with aspen branches to climb on. The live plants I washed twice and re-potted in organic soil.
Dripper for water plus spray ~3 times a day.
Temperature: 80F in the middle of the cage.
Feed: 4-6 crickets twice a day with a few meal worms in the cage in case he gets hungry. I dust 1-2 crickets a day with ZooMed Reptivite with D3.
Light: 60W heat lamp on top, Exo Terra Reptile UVB100 13W shining thru the mesh side as to not shine thru glass.
Frank is very active. He likes to roam around a lot and seems comfortable. He has a good appetite and doesn't mind eating from your hand. He's in a much better environment compared to the pet store yet hes not nearly as bright, even when he's sleeping. I'm worried that I'm missing something. Can someone please explain!

P.S. Im attaching pictures. One is the day I brought Frank home, another is 6 days after (still looks that way today), and the other is the cage.

Hey JHumm,
Welcome to the forums , Veilds are great Chams. I would get rid of the substrate, Chams can ingest pieces and impact their bowels. Also you should be dusting with calcium every day , and dusting twice monthly each calcium with D
And a multivitamin also. You will need to upgrade to a 2x2x4 cage when he or she gets a little larger. The fun is just beginning , do a lot of reading ,look in the resources section lots of good info on chameleon care. Good luck
Dave

Thanks Dave!
I'll get rid of the substrate. I was planning on getting rep cal calcium. I have a d3 supplement with the Reptivite (which I think is a multivitamin but I'm not 100%). Do you think the dull color is a supplement issue?

Hey JHumm,
Supplements is an issue you need to change right away. Sometimes dark colors can be a sign your Cham needs to bask. Try changing things around to make sure he can get close to get some heat. Aquariums aren't the best for heat transfer or breathability . You should see what he looks like in natural sunlight. He should get some awesome colors, take him out for a bit.
Live and learn.
Dave

Thanks again for the info Dave! Frank experienced the outdoors for the first time today. Got to really see him change colors as the parts exposed to the sun darkened. Pretty neat!
Anyway, hes been eating a lot and growing like a weed. Could this be cause for the loss of color? My thought is that his body is growing too fast for his skin pigment to keep up. If that is a thing.
Should I limit his intake? If so, to how much? (he ate 16 crickets today!)

Another question I have is how young will a cham begin to shed?

Joel I would add some more foliage to your enclosure. It is kinda bare. It will probably make him feel more safe and secure in his habitat. Also not so sure about the rope net. He might get his nails caught. If they get pulled out they will not grow back.
