because the fact most crickets i order in bulk die in the first week and it just crazy to my local pet store and pay 11cents a cricket plus the tax makeing it about $1.36 for 10 crickets which my cham and frog eat in each feeding i was thinking roaches might be the way to go i know dubias cant climb or fly other than males hovering about 3-4 inches. i have had them for my old beardy when i lived with my mom but now i was thinking about getting them again for my cham. he is about 11" long and im thinking full grown but i was wondering how big of a roach he can safely eat cuz i dont want more roaches than i can handle. this might sound weird but if i took my bigger roaches that are extra and freeze them will they die? cuz im a very serious fisherman and i was thinking about them for bait. :) thanks guys.

At 11" your cham can most likely eat an adult roach with no problem. If you want to make sure a feeder is ok for your cham to eat make sure it is not bigger than the spacing between the chameleons eyes.

As for freezing a dubia roach to use for bait it will probably die. They are tropical and cannot survive cold temperatures well at all. Anything under 40 degrees will be trouble for them.

my dubia survived two hard NY frosts outside in a bucket before they died.
They aren't as fragile as you would think. However, that was outside where they warmed up during the day. They would surely die in the freezer. you may be able to try keeping them in a fridge to slow them down without killing them? I don't know, just a thought.

I have also read as a rule of thumb that the feeder should be no bigger than the length of the chameleons jaw when viewed from the side. Does that make sense?
