dubia males?

i have read that you should limit your number of males in your colony. my problem is when i got them i probably have a one male to one female ratio. what does everyone do with their extra males besides feed them off? i have two ambanja about 4.5 months old so i cant feed them off. any suggestions?

It probably won't be too long until you can feed them off. I would just keep them going until your cham can eat them and then feed off the males first.

I know, not very helpful, but I don't see many options.

You could try to work it out so that you expect to feed most of the males before that point, and always had an increasing set number to accommodate the females.
You could think about separating them in a different container for a while, to do what with...IDK....

Is there something wrong with having a lot of males?

I suppose not. There's just going to be a whole lot more breeding going on.

They tend to eat each others wings if there is an over abundance of adult males.

is that bad?
i think nonflying roaches would be a plus.

if you have a cat you can use them as cattoys.

Dubia can't fly. That is why they make good feeders.

The males compete for the same food, and they really do not add anything to your colony. So, a few lucky males can service your females who will be your production line. I agree with putting your extra males in a different container, and when your Chams get big enough, the unlucky will earn the keep you give them. I got my Blaptica Dubia from the Roach Guy, and he sends a nice two page care and breeding sheet to help you out, if you need it.
What a joy it is to not need to deal with the cricks anymore.

I have only had a problem with dubia eating each others wings when they weren't getting enough moisture and/or protein. Try throwing a hard boiled egg in if you are having this problem. Also be sure that they always have plenty of things to provide a moisture source.

This is what I do. Just seperate and feed them basics. I just gutload the males about 24hrs prior to feeding. My main colony I feed gutload all the time.

I got roaches a month or so ago and they are breeding well. I feed the males off and I just noticed a male with his wings bitten, so I'm going to separate them today. I think roaches are the best feeders I have. the superworms are still under probation seeing as the beetles haven't produced any worms yet.
