Custom Cage

Is there anyway people could post pics of their custom cages? Me and my husband bought a cham from Cain, and built him a temp cage and are looking to build him a full time huge cage, I ended up taking in a rescue reptile that went in the big custom cage we bought for him. My husband built my iguanas cage, so he is good at building. We just wanted to know if its ok to use the polyutherene with the chameleon, also, what is the best wood to buy? What is the best screen to buy? Is front door screen ok?
Thanks so much!

polyurathane will tend to flake with exessive moisture. i reccomend acrylic. standard screen is used by some but i think a product called petscreen is the most common. i used finish grade pine and poplar on mine. but most wood sealed properly will work fine.

Hey Stephanie:) How is the little guy doing? WE NEED PICS!!!! I like to use the fiberglass grey screening. If you take your guy outside in the summer it wont get as hot as the black pet screen or you can get the aluminum screen. HMMMM maybe he can build me a cage:rolleyes: You saw mine:eek: They work though.

For the frame, I used cheap pine, leftover plywood, left over fir, whatever was kicking around. I painted with low or Zero VOC acrylic latex paint. I use painted peg-board for the back and sides. Coated wire or hardware cloth (because mine to do not tend to hang upside down from it, having adequate perches) for the top (allows max UVB in, instead of blocking a chunk of it like screen does). I use plexiglass for the front doors.
Petscreen is a good option. Coated wire is a good option, and they can climb it safely. Aluminium window/door screen is not advisable for adult chameleons because they might try to climb the screen and potentially hurt or even pull out there claws. Fibreglass screen should be avoided as the coating can degrade, exposing sharp fibreglass threads. Dense mesh material can block adequate exposure to UVB. Hardware cloth or other uncoated metal wire can cause serious foot and snout injuries.

You could also try free-ranging. By building a cage like in the thread "My ''Free Range?'' cage". I finished it a couple of days ago. Relative to the size of the cage, it is very inexpensive.
