Cricket Setup?

Would a 18 gallon rubbermaid with a screen top, paper towel rolls and egg cartons be a good setup to make sure my crickets don't escape yet a good living habitat for juvenile crickets? If anybody could post pictures of their set up it would be greatly appreciated, i want to see how yall house nd handle your crix.

my cham is not a cricket fan but when I did house them I used a 10 gallon tank with screen lid. It let alot of air in and I used the egg crates. It was great to clean. I would just move the egg crate to one side and then scrape the bottom with a paint scraper! I kep the crickets very successfully and did not have alot of die off.

Here is my complete feeder set up.... I only have 1 cham so this works well for me.. I cut away the ends of my Kricket Keeper..& added screen this helps alot for ventilation and keeps die offs down. I get more crix around the corner at the local pets store;) My Supers are kept in that chinese food container with holes drilled in the top. I LUV the K.K. I slide a tube out tap some crix into the Repashy Cal plus... Shaky ,Shake..pop the lid... set inside cage on its side..... remove a few minutes later... DONE!

You didnt see it at first.. cause I added that last part. You probably read it while I was editing it:eek: Like I said for only 1 cham this works well. I have no need for that many crix.... This K.K. holds alot of those buggers, a couple hundred easy....

That's why, okay makes sense now :p well cool Idont knowhow many ill keep its good to know what I have for options

Ferrit, how do you clean that though? I cleaned my cricket tank out everyday and like I said it sure was easy cleaning. Just slide the egg crate to one side, they all follow. I would keep 500 at a time, maybe you are keeping alot more. And then take the old paint scraper, scrape and pile up the poop, wipe with paper towel and it was done. How do you keep those cricket keepr clean, and when you want to clean where do you put the crickets?

Ferret can I ask what type of glue you used on your setup? I'm trying to make one now and I'm having a helluva time finding glue that works well!

Here is how I keep mine: Keeping Crickets

Thats the same setup I have. Works great. You just need to ensure proper ventilation. Crickets seem very sensative to ammonia, and thats the main issue I have with mine. That and the small ones drieing out.

For cleaning I usually lay something in the bottom, such as towles, and that mainly collects most of it. You could also put some sand in the bottom. OR, get some flesh eating beetles, they help greatly with larger colonies ( 1000+)

After you cut the holes... Rough up the inside edges where you want the screen and use clear silicone;) Let it dry good before adding crix.... it has a strong odor till dry
