i know this isnt a chameleon topic but here it goes...i just rescued/bought a crested gecko from petsmart hes a baby so wanted to take him before he was messed up if you know what oi mean...lol...i know a few people here have cresties cause i just saw a thread, and i wanted to know what was the best lighting for me to use to be able to vew them at night in action???

thanks...

the problem with those bulbs are both normally heat providing bulbs and en less it's REALLY, like really cold and you need to boost the temp to low-mid 60's at night then those bulbs could effect him negatively. Although if you can find red or blue led bulbs to hang from a bit off the tank that would work well.

I know bulbs typically above them could maybe bother them, I have salt water aquariums on around my gecko room so the blue lights actually light up the room dimmly as moonlight.

Ive seen people using red lights in gecko rooms though ;)

Check out PangeaReptile.com they will direct you on so many things about Crested Geckos. Even with the natural moonlight in my own room I can see my 8 geckos jumping around and hear them for that matter. What is your setup like? You don't want to get a bulb too close if you end up using one, because 80 plus degrees is way too much heat for one.

I have a dimmer switch in my kitchen, where my cresties live, and watch them under dimmed light in the evenings (I have to let my eyes adjust), but my big male in the lounge doesn't get up until the lights are all off completely. Something like that might be less disruptive than having a light on them all night?

I just use a regular red party bulb. It is like 13w, I found it at lowes. I think my gecko can tell when it is on so I only turn it on to check on her at night.

I have a red bulb on my cresties.

Its a low watt, barely puts off any heat, and i have it suspended over the terrarium so it doesnt get warm.
