Ok. Danibug's faly supposedly tested positive for coccidia. but she was given albon to treat it.
weve heard horror stories on this drug.
and was wondiern ghwat others have to say on treating it. besides that its contagious.

Also, the vet said that the infestation could cause constnat prolapses, whihc is what is occuring, but weve never heard of that.

any ideas?

Dam. Thats upsetting. I could ask some of the reptile experts i know and see how they feel.

My deepest condolences and hopefully everything turns out alright.

please do!

neither she nor i are happy with what her vet said.
and since im trying to adopt this cham from her, we need all the help we can get.

I am certainly no vet, but as far as i know, the biggest thing is that you can't let the prolapsed tissue dry out. This will lead to further infections and if the tissue dies out, sadly so does the animal ( at least from what i've seen). Other members please correct me if i'm wrong about that.

no youre right.
shes putting ky on it every time it comes out. and repeating until it goes back in.

and it eventually goes back in.

the problem is that coccidia should cause diarrhea, whcih he doesnt have.

sadly your right. he can't get it back in without help so i have to work the ky on it and help him put it back in. but i don't think he can live like that much longer.

Hmm.. Are there any other vets in the area or out of the area whom could get the needed medicines?

I know its a pain and it kills the bank account but sometimes going to a vet outside your typical vet is necessary. When my Savannah Monitor was having her seizures the night she died, i had to rush her 40 min away to Portsmouth veterinary. It was going to cost me ridiculous amounts of money, but the things we do for our pets. Its at the least worth calling if you haven't yet.

well. the first vet i took my chameleons to i paid 150 dollars so he could get his picture taken and put on Facebook :) and this vet was the last "exotic" vet around the nearest one is now 3 hours away.

the next closest vet for her is 3 hours away. and i dotn think hes in danger of dying this second.

i have a call into my vet to see how they would treat coccidia, but the doc isnt in until 4.

and since shes in SC and im in MD, thats a bit of a drive.

That is one heck of a drive to make. On the bright side, it looks like you know your options and are doing what you can to make things comfortable for your cham.

hes doing ok.
stools are fine looking.
bright eyed, eating, drinking etc. so its not life threatening right now.

which is why shes not in a car driving to MD right now, haha.

the 2nd thread has a pharmacy in AZ that will ship you the ponazuril if your vet sends them the prescription. try calling them, you might get it faster or even over night it toyou.

Sorry to hear is dani! There is another thread up that I just posted about coccidia. I would bet your hands on ponazuril. It is used for almost all animals (dogs, cats and was made for horses) so you may have an easier time getting it. The first thing you should notice with coccidia is dehydration... Many animals have coccidia occurring naturally in the flora kd the gut. If the animal becomes Ill then the coccidia may start to overproduce and cause problems. #1 sign is dihearea leading to dehydration. So even though it may be present, it may be in low quantities.

Get your hands on some hornworms or silks If u can. Hope It works out.

thanks for the number, if my vet doesnt hvae it, ill have them call them.

and she stated that there is no dierrhea and he is heating and drinking just fine.
other than the chronic prolapsing, there does nto appear to be any issues. (though that is a big one)
