Chameleon Vocalization

I have a female Ambilobe that makes a chirping/croaking sound, similar to some small tree frogs. Has anyone else heard their chameleon vocalize (besides hissing)?

She usually arches her head back (lke a wolf howling) and lets out one or two croaks. She does this at least once or twice a day, the Chameleon room doubles as my computer room, so I am in there about 2 hours a day plus feeding and cleaning times.

I never hear from the other 6 panthers that I have. Maybe one day I will be able to catch her on video, but she usually does it when my back is turned.

That doesn't sound good, I've never had to deal with a URI or LRI but.. could it be possible that she has an infection and does that to try to breathe?
Pure speculation on my part, I apologize if you just have a very vocal female and I'm wrong.

Not in my chams but i have read that they do make low groaning noises sometimes. My savannah monitor makes the weirdest groaning noise ever, its kinds freaky.

Does sound like possible respiratory Infection. Could you fill out the how to ask for help questions in the top of the health section to give us a little but more of an idea on what might be causing it.

Look inside the mouth. Do you see bubbles at the back of the throat or is it clear?

LRI is a gurgling and wheezing sound. Not high pitched. The animal is gasping for air.

they vibrates (idk about panthers, but certainly veiled).. and i do not think you should be able to hear their vocalization without equipment.
Arching her back (like a wolf howling) and croaking/ crackling seems to indicate that she is having trouble breathing.

I would suspect Respiratory Infection as the culprit.
Time to have her checked by the vet.

I believe I have posted this article somewhere before, however it won't hurt to do it again. Veiled Chameleons use vibrations to communicate.. But from what I'm understanding it's almost if she can not breathe.. I suggest reading this and telling me if you think your little one is doing something like on this article.

The subsonic sounds/vibrations of some species can he heard here: http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/Vines/5014/hoot.html

The Trioceros goetzei is the only species of chameleon to actually make an audible squeaking sound when stressed or threatened. It sounds exactly like a mouse and it's quite loud. If I wasn't technologically challenged I'd record it for everyone.

I concur with everyone else, she might have a URI.

Cheers,
T

Thanks for the replies....sounds like a vet trip is in order.
She is not shy and friendly (walks on to my hand when I offer), so she gets a lot of outside time to catch some real UV light.
She doesn't look sick, and is fairly active and no signs of URI, but if vocalizing isn't part of the norm, I will make an appointment as a precaution.....I'd hate to loose her, she if one of the few that actually like me (or should I say, tolerates my presence).
