chameleon pawing at munchy cup

Just wondering what do you guys and gals use for a munchy cup? I have a small transparent plastic cup.

The problem is that he likes to paw at it from time to time. Also, if he is underneath the cup when i put food in it, he will look at it confused because he cant get the crickets from underneath the cup. But he can see them.

Just wondering if there is something else i can use or if i should just let him be? Also, should i take the cup out when there is no food in it?
 
I've got a 1 liter milk jug that I washed out thoroughly and cut the sides out -- kept the handle to tie it to the cage - and cut the bottom out(gluing in some wire mesh screen). I've got it hung in a spot where he's more likely to be at the top than the bottom and I do leave it in the cage -- taking it out occassionally to clean powder residue off the wire (from the crickets)...

I've been feeding mine a couple crickets every few days and would like to start doing dubia's if my wife would let me buy some lol... the majority of his food lately has been the Zebra Silkworms which I just put on his walking vines and they're gone pretty quick. He'll eat them all pretty much as soon as I put them on the vine.

Originally I had the same problem with clear cups. I had a small white container from PETCO i got some supworms in... I use it to dust the crickets and in the morning if i hold it in the cage for a second I'll let Evo shoot a couple out of the container, then i just let the others in the cage and he'll spend a bit in the morning hunting them.
As for the supers he is too small to eat them so I don't know what to do with them...
and waxworms he won't eat
and the silkies he will eat out of my hand but not if i put them in the cage.
 
I just use a plastic beer cup. They come in many colors. The inside is white so it is quite easy for the chams to see their prey. When I open the door to their habitat and they see the cup they come running. I don't have to put the cup into the habitat because they just bam the crickets or supers lickety split. One of them takes 2 at a time and one eats daintly and chooses the biggest first, then the next.......the other one likes to let a couple escape the cup for later. LOL
 
I use two cups one with holes for water to escape that is attached to cage. second cup i put 8-10 crickets in then put into other cup attached to enclosure. Morken usauly comes running and eats them within seconds. then i remove second cup and clean. I do this twice per day. 18-32 oz will hold med to large without escape. 12-16 for small. I recomend blue, some chams dont like red. Morken cares not.
 
i just use a flower pot and keep it in there. when shes hungry she stands on it and waits. i drop in a cricket, bang
 
The problem is that it is transparent and he can see them from underneath. If you use a container (coloured plastic beer cups are great) try and get one that is white. That way they are clear and easy to see in the cup but he cant see them from the outside.

Is he pawing at the container before he has eaten for the day? Do you think he is hungry or just curious?
 
I would say hungry, I have decided he pays no attention to cup unless he is hungry. sometimes i put in cup he hangs out above and watches crickets. most of the time he comes only when cup is filled. you might want to give your cham 1 more cricket each feeding progressively till you find a point where it leaves a few. then cut back to that number. mine ate 12-20 large when i got him at 4.5 months old. I moved him to larger cage, now he is eating 20-30 large a day. so it varies a lot, younger eat more-older less basicly. another hint my veilded only munches plants when i dont give him enough bugs. different types of food is important too.
