i was told that its a bad idea to feed a cham superworms becuase they can eat through the stomach of the cham. is this true? has anyone had issues with this?

Nah, they drown super fast anyways. Careful though! They can pack a punch when they bite your cuticle (it not really bad, just surprising.)

Ill be honest...when i first saw the name of this thread i was like HERE WE GO expecting to hear about fried chameleons or a chameleon eating another cham..but like everyone else said yeah its just speculation.

I'm personally terrified of superworms, but so many people here who have years (decades?) of experience with chameleons swear by them that the "eat out of the stomach" thing has to be a myth. If it were true, there would be warnings about them in every forum here.

Or on a greater scale, consider this, if superworms can eat out of the stomach of a chameleon then they can surely eat out of the stomach of alot of other reptiles so im sure places that sell insects probably wouldnt sell superworms if they were capable of killing a reptile.

@crossbone: Off topic, but i just wanted to say that baby you have as your avatar is adorable!!!!

The first time i purchased mealworms from the petstore they told me about the chewing of the stomach thing as well. I don't think they can do anything once they are devoured. Besides unless your cham doesnt chew they are probably dead anyway when they reach the stomach.

Sometimes my panthers practically inhale them and they are 100% fine. :D

LOL! My Pete loves them but really chew on them.

It shocked the hell out of me the first time I felt that. They don't draw blood like the fruit beetle larva but you can definately feel it! :D

i finally saw her get a cricket about two weeks ago and it exploded when she ate it so... i think she would do fine.. i just wanted to make sure.

I was just told this by the guy selling me the supers at the reptile store...I just ignored him and decided to let him think he knows something I didn't!!!

Someone needs to make an experiement to settle this once and for all. We all know they can't burrow through stomachs, but something that helps settle the worries of new owners. Someone needs to get a hold of some hydrochloric acid, potassium chloride, and sodium chloride, put it all in a shallow dish, stick a super in there alive and time how long it takes it to die. Or even better, do the same experiment with the same amount of water and also see that it takes it about 8 seconds to drown.

All I know is that supers are about the lamest insect, as soon as you get 3 drops of water in the feeding cup about 2 superworms have managed to drown in it.
