My 7 month female veiled is laying on my hand with her eyes closed and every so often she will give off a little buzz or vibration but she doesn't seem to be bothered. Any ideas as to why? Thanks

They communicate by sending vibrations down twigs to each other in nature.

They will do this sometimes when picked up if they are nervous or afraid.

Laying in your hand is not typical behavior for a chameleon.

Be cautious about handling, it is easy to misinterpret what they are experiencing sometimes. Coloration and appetite are fairly good guides, body language is sometimes a little more subtle (sometimes very obvious).

was she cold?

like flux said they seem to communicate this way. It most apparent in males that are trying to court a female or putting off a territorial display.

what concerns me is why is she laying on your hand with her eyes closed? like i said was she cold or are you over handling her? Thats not normal.

she could be responding to a vibration shes feeling through your body, or trying to locate another cham.

I had a theory that they can use the vibration to kind of "map" nearby branches (sort of like echo location). Maybe she was trying to "feel" where she was. But that idea is only conjecture.
