Buying Silkworms closer to home?

Is there anyplace on the West Coast that sales Silkworms, all of the major online buyers for most of the Cham food is on the East Coast and their shipping prices are insane. I'd rather not pay 2-3 times more on shipping than for the single product I'm purchasing. If anyone has any sites or knows of any west coast silkworm shops please let me know.

I believe Mulberry Farms is in CA.

It is indeed. It is located in Fallbrook. I drive there once or everyother week. It isn't close, but the cost of fuel is just as much as ground shipping... so why wait two days when I can get it same day for just a little less money? Oh and when you pickup they kinda give you a price break. They don't ever have change when you pickup.. so if the number isn't a good round number they usually round down. Just make sure you have exact change when they tell ya how much the bill is.

They have nice feeders! I must say... They do not breed crickets. Rainbow Meal worms has a location not more than 15 minutes away... So I am assuming they supply them with their cricket orders. I also think American Cricket Ranch is in the same area... or.. and Crickets Direct is also within a 10 minute car ride...... So I think everyone down there is in bed together and maybe only one person supplies the crickets to everyone.

with the priece of gas on my v6 from LA to San Diego? hmm... I dunno. lol. I thought about making that trip a few times... but not anymore now that i'm back in colllege with no job again. Taking the Registered nursing program. It requires not having a life... so i study and read... then take a break to watch my chams and reminice on the days when i used to spoil them with all sorts of feeders, vines, etc. etc for their cage... lol. sucks.

LOL well I drive this:


Since I purchased it over a year ago I have kept every single gas reciept and entered them into a spread sheet. I average a measly 19.49 MPG. The best MPG I ever got with a full tank was 25mpg... BUT... that was no boost ever and I was prolly on the fwy for most of that. The worst MPG was in the 13 range. That was when I was only driving it to work (I live 2 miles away...) Not a lot of time to get the engine warm or get the engine at a constant speed.

I live in OC and.. well SDC is next door... its about 55 miles for me one way.

hmm.... OC is about 30 miles away from me, my girl's family is in Long Beach. hey, you ever take that nice car on a touge? haha. 55 miles is still somewhat of a drive. not so much. I drive 60 miles to visit family in riverside... and they live about an hour away from SD. We should roll out there together one day on a silkworm run. haha.

Back on topic. I was thinking that I would buy silkworm eggs from Mulberry Farms and just hatch/raise my own. It seems fairly practical if you have more than one herp to feed and more so if you have a variety of sizes. I haven't checked, but it's probably less expencive in terms of shipping as well.

Before ya get too into it... try buying one of their cups. it comes with food and some worms... see how your guys like it... I also found the larger worms are a PAIN in the @$$

I have gotten a couple of their cups, that's why I'm interested in going bulk. The cups are fine, but their expensive for what you end up getting. My female Sambava is on strike and doesn't want to eat crickets anymore so I need an alternative. Larger worms would be just fine for my male.

Nice Miata. No SR, all stock KA. The reason being is that I've gotten too much heat over from the cops about this car over the years and I just don't need the drama anymore. Especially since I decided I want to be a peace officer. However the car is fully built for track usage. I just registered it non-op and garaged her though. =(

These guys are great! you can buy a few breeding pairs and have a colony within a couple of months.

Let me know if ya wanna go SR... I've done the swap twice... I've also done a JDM EJ20 into a 2000 2.5RS Impreza on stand alone.

I hope to put FMs VooDoo II turbo kit on the Miata this summer before the Open House in August.

Yep, Azusa Canyon OHV @ East Fork Bridge. I drove past it 3-5 nights a week for a few years and always wanted to join those guys. I bought the 03' Discovery and decided to take my automotive hobby in a completely different direction. Azusa is fun, but nothing serious. I like it because my rig is still mostly stock and I can easily pick and choose my battles where as on trails you just have to tough it out (no turning back).

I'll probably never go SR as I'd rather go KA-T and already have a spare motor to do it. SRs are wildly overrated. To be honest I really don't see anything happening with the S13 any time soon... I don't have to drive it and I got tired of smog. I could trailer it out to grip events, but I'm just not that interested at the moment. Thanks for the info though, I'll keep you in mind if I ever change my mind.

Turbo on the miata seems like fun. Miatas are neat, I just don't dig convertibles.

ok you guys have me wanting to pack my bags and move out to cali right now. i live in MI and it looks nothing like the places in your pics. the backgrouns in the pics are amazing, o and the cars are nice to..lol, o and to add to the thred i think it is best to buy in bulk and grow your own it might take a few times to get it right but once you do it is a lot cheeper then buying them at 200-500 at a time.
