Buyer pays PayPal fee ?

Am I the only one that feels the seller should take the hit? If something sells for 200 why should the buyer have to front the fees charged by PayPal. Its not the buyers fault the seller is not setup for any other method of payment. I may be wrong ... I dont charge extra for receiving payment via PayPal, maybe I should.

I always take the hit as the seller. Is there a way that you can make the buyer take it?

We take the hit as a seller, but I've dealt with many sellers that want the buyer to take the hit. I usually don't mind, but it's however you feel about the situation. Paypal rapes in fees.

it's however the seller sets up the sale that matters. Buyer can decide to buy under those terms or not. I think paypal's fees are actually pretty reasonable. also there are ways around the fee when sending money. for a cham that's 200 bucks the paypal fee is about six dollars... nothing to get fired up over IMO.

what's the difference if the seller says the fee is 206 dollars for a cham (obviously including that papal fee in the total) or says the cham is 200 dollars + paypal fee? the price of the item is whatever the seller sets it at, and they can chose to allocate those funds how they wish in covering their costs.

Caveat emptor

The seller takes the hit, just like retail stores that have to pay the fees. It is part of the business of sales.

IMO thinking the seller should "take a hit" on a paypal fee is like saying a seller should cover shipping fees. it's a cost that's part of the transaction, just like shipping.

I do a lot of selling online (vintage and newer guitars) and people are usually happy to cover paypal and shipping cost as an added expense on the total cost of the item. item price + shipping and fees = total cost is typically the model used in online selling in my experience.

Just my $.02

I think it depends if the buyer has a choice of payment other than PayPal. If the seller offers PayPal only, the seller should take the hit. Same token you stated above, does the seller want to bicker over $6?

How would you feel if the only payment a seller will take is Pesos and on top of that charge extra for doing so? I'm sure they wouldn't stay in business for long or the very least lose sells.

That's why I pay cash most of the time at the gas station so I don't get hit on extra charges by using a credit card. But I have that option to choose whether or not I want to pay extra!

"How would you feel if the only payment a seller will take is Pesos and on top of that charge extra for doing so?"

If i had a problem with that, I would move on to another seller. an option every buyer has. If i felt that the total cost with all the fees was reasonable, i would buy the item.

"I think it depends if the buyer has a choice of payment other than PayPal." again if you don't like the payment option(s) i would move on rather than cry this isn't fair. another seller in the free market is sure to meet your needs. idk. just me.

If you HAVE TO HAVE that particular chameleon (or whatever), then you have to suck it up and buy according to sellers rules. it's not unfair, mean, or out of the ordinary really.

All you have to do is say "Winning bidder responsible for all fees;shipping and paypal"

if the person argues, they lose. If it was in the original auction the seller wins the battle and worse case scenario the you have to start the auction over again.... of course now your gonna get dinged again for another auction fee..... so depending on the fees it might be better to suck it up. Most of the time you get a credit if you show eBay the buyer was a flake. I was selling a violin for my boss and we had a few auctions go bad. I never ended up paying for them though.

Sometimes it's best to just say "shipping and handling fee is $X" and just guess on how much money it'll be to cover your 'handling fees'. The S/H fee is tacted on over the shipping cost. Ya can't lose money that way. That is how those infomercials stay alive... "ONLY three payments of 2.99!!!" and in small print "S+H Fee $18" that actually pays for the products LOL.

Most stations are 'same as cash'. Sometimes there are those stations that do offer a cash discount... but I don't have any in my area. I use speed pass anyway....... so.... I just use Mobil 99.99% of the time.
