Bradypodion Uthmoelleri?

Hello all.........I bought the pair of F1 Bradypodion Uthmoelleri that were listed on Kingsnake.com by Nick at First Choice Reptile today. They will arrive here next week. I've done some basic research on them. This is my first departure in the cham world from Panthers and Veileds. I spent a lot of time on google researching them, but wondered if I missed anything. Does anyone here know of any good sites? Or any book that covers them? I have a book that covers some Bradypodion species but not the Uthmoelleri species. I'm going to house them in a juvie size screen cage with potted plants and lighting like I do panthers. I'm just going to keep their cage temperature in the low to mid 70's (room temperature in my chameleon rooms) with no heat source. They will also have plenty of humidity through misting and the potted plants. Any other info you can share would be appreciated. My time on Google yielded a lot of scientific classification stuff but not much actual husbandry information. No specifics at all on the Adcham site. Thanks so much :)

First of all, congrats. I really like the look of those little guys. I actually had my Spawls book sitting right in front of me. They say B. uthmoelleri come from quite high woodland and grassland from 7,500 feet to 10,500 feet elevation and are found in tall trees. The tail is supposed to be proportionately longer than other species, which I would be inclined to believe is an adaptation to a windy environment. I bet they'd like the tallest cage possible. I think I'd still provide a low-wattage heat lamp as an option for them and see if they use it, but sounds like you're all set for them. Hopefully you'll be posting pics when you receive??

Question?

Stupid question alert.............what are "Spawls" books. I'm not familiar with them but it sounds like I should be :)

Thanks so much :)

Thanks so much for the help! I am pretty excited. Thank you for the book link and information Kent. I will start out with a low Watt heat source at first. I'm lucky that I have my own mini warehouse of extra cages and fixtures, etc. I will use a taller cage per your suggestion. StudioCham....thank you for the link. It looks like you participate, along with Trace and others from this group, in another Chameleon forum. I saw some great photos of Bradypodion Uthmoelerii posted by Chris Anderson there. I know he belongs to this group too. Trace....where did you get the photo you teased me with? Is it from your collection? You don't have them listed in your signature. Thanks again with all your help....I will post pictures as soon as they settle in :)

hey, if possible can you post 1 picture that has his whole body?
I always see people cropping the tail in the photo.
I want to see how long its tail compared to his body :)

I gave up listing what I work with in my signature far too many years ago - I use that option as an avenue to express what amuses/annoys me abewt the hobby now... or what makes me laugh in general. This week it's Gossip Girl!

That particular animal was owned by Chris Anderson, and I shot that pic last year on the now infamous "Chameleon Road Trip 2006". I have not worked with the uthmoelleri so I can't offer personal insights on the species, beyond any discussions I've had with Chris abewt them and what's listed in my Tanzanian field guides - all of which have been stated here and on the other boards that you've looked at.

I will say this though: I own/have owned several of the rare F1 species from this particular exporter and you will not be disappointed in these animals! As you know, they cost a little more, but they are worth every penny. Mine adapted very well to captivity and they've been an absolute joy to work with.

Definitely keep us posted on your new critters.
Cheers!
T!
