Bitten by a superworm!

Who has ever been bitten by a superworm? I usually crush the jaws of my superworms before they're fed off (even if they do oozed a gross liquid :() But I guess I missed the jaws today and it swung back and bit me. Didn't really hurt but it was hard to pull off, for what I'd expect from a worm/larva anyways.

Definitely going to be more careful about crushing their jaws, wouldn't want my chameleon's eye turrets bitten or anything.

I have! It was more of a surprise then anything, almost like a pincher bug.

Now I take pleasure in cracking their jaws :)

The one that bit me didn't really hurt, but my hands are always cold and dont feel much so... It could just be that my hands are lame :)

The darned thing swung back and took hold of my finger! I never did before either until today! He was a fighter :) Got eaten pretty quick though.

haha Funny this post is here!!! I got bit the first time yesterday!!! I was like Ahhhhh it didnt hurt much but scared the crap out of me! I didnt see that one coming!! haha to funny! :D

Ive never understood how anyone is bitten by them. Ive handled thousands, and its never happened.

I was going to say the same thing. After all the supers I've fed to my chams and other lizards I've never been bitten. Now hornworms are a different story :)

pssh - did it leave a mark at all like a red spot or something?

i use tweezers to feed them lol I don't take chances, I drop it if it gets too close to my hands :p But I have gotten bitten by a yellow jacket, OUCH! I still have the scar.

I have gotten bitten by the nasty things several times, mostly when I inject medicine or water into their undersides.:( Also I put my supers on the screen cage and let then climb, I have never crushed their heads, it this bad??

No red mark. It was more like a strong grab with the mouth parts than a bite.

Ahah! Superworm girl.

You don't have to crush them, I just feel safer doing it just in case. Plus my guys are babies so I feel better about it.

I do the same and let them climb the screen and its fun to watch them get sniped off the screen :D

I never crush their heads...why spoil their fun and I have never had a problem with them but mine did not get any superworms until they were at least 8 months old and could handle them without issue

this has never happened to me during the few years ive spent working in pet stores and tending to my own animals and people are always telling me how much these bite! their jaws are SO small; in comparison to hornworms at least which can really cause problems; i wouldnt even know how it would hold onto a finger. despite this ive always had my chams learn to "aim for the head" just in case the worms could actually cause a problem if they bite.

i always use tweezers with mine but i lose my temper when they wriggle out and fall on the floor :D
i got my husband to to put one on the door and he got bit,he must have had a little bit of an reaction as the area was swollen for a couple of days.
Mista also always gets them head first so i'm not worried about them biting him

Was it an older Superworm? The freshly molted supers are soft, and their jaws are weak. I couldn't imagine one of those doing anything, but I guess an older one could. I never had a bite from one, but a cricket got me once.

i was bitten by a super right in the palm of my hand! it felt like a pin prick. no blood, no swelling. but i was bitten by A WORM! wtf? i dont break mandibles or crush head my chams chomp them up FAST. they like supers when they get them.
