best way to get snake poop out of water?

haha, this is a dirty topic, but self explanatory. someone HAS to have experience with this....but thor pooped in his water, and instead of doing a water change every single time he poops in it (which i have a feeling will be his new favorite place to do the deed) how can i get it out without it breaking up and mixing into the water? i tried using a styrofoam cup with holes in the bottom to kind of "net" it and it mostly worked, but a couple pieces broke off and were mixed around..so i have to do a water change regardless. what about a fish net or a litterbox scoop? ideas, experiences?

Id change it regardless every time he does. just make it easily accessible and able to change as often as you have to.

haha, i never thought about that when i put a 12 qt dishpan in there for him -.- how often do snakes poop? lol..

bout once a week. and yes it is mandatory that you change the water if it has fecal deposites in it. So much bacteria!!

okay, i didnt realize they pooped not that often, thought it was every day. i can handle changing his dishpan once a week ;)

just did a full water change and had the cage lid off for about 5 or 6 minutes and thor was completely content in his hide :) will be feeding him later this week.

How often they poop depends on their age/size, how often they eat and what they eat. Larger snakes eat larger meals less often, so they poop less frequently than young faster growing snakes. My 4' ball python poops about once every 3 weeks depending on how often he's eating at the time. They are known to fast for several months out of the year. Not sure about RT boas.

ALL poop is full of bacteria both from the food and from the snake's intestinal tract. I would never just scoop and not change the water...you are just asking for trouble especially if your guy soaks in his water bowl. He'll end up coating himself with bacteria and that can lead to scale and skin infections. Bacteria or not, I wouldn't ask any pet to drink contaminated water.

I haven't kept RT boas but depending on the terrarium humidity he may need to soak in a water bowl fairly often. You could offer him a humid hide box (plastic box filled with wet sphagnum moss) but only offer him a water bowl too small for him to pack himself into instead. It might keep him from using the water bowl for "other purposes".

When i had my 9ft red tail she would only eat and doody once a month. In my experience is does slow down as they get bigger. We got her when she was just a week old.
