can someone who has bearded dragons tell me what feeding suplements should i use ? how often ? and what live food is the best ? and when can i start feeding veggies ?

other than that i want to know more about substrate , lights , temps ,humid etc.
ah and what size enclosure do i need to house a pair ?

thank you

Hi there! Best of luck with your dragons! I personally would house the pair separately, unless you mean that you want 2 females. Otherwise they will continually try to breed. I use a UVB (but they can have the coil type), as well as a floodlight for the heat. My temps are from 86-100 degrees - I have 2 females in the same cage (custom built, it's about 3 1/2 feet wide and 2-3' deep, 3 1/2 ' tall to accomidate the lighting).

Because I have 2 in the same cage, I have 2 basking spots - I use garden bricks to make a pyramid, but I leave the bottom open, as a hole, or a tunnel, which is the 86 end of the basking temps. Also, in 1 corner I have a hammock - they sell them in pet stores in the states, it's hard plastic that I use a cup hook to attach to the back corner and sides - one is normally sleeping up there at night.

As for substrate, I use tiles. It's a lot easier to clean than anything else, and bearded dragons can get messy! Maybe it's just mine, but they seem to love to pooh, and then walk through it...

I got my dragons as babies, about 4 years ago, and started them on veggies when they were maybe 8 months old, or 1 year (sorry I don't remember). As for supplimentation, I use the Super Cal from Repashy that I use for my chams but I only feed them every other day, and their lunch gets dusted about 2 feedings a week, maybe 3. They all seem healthy and happy, so hope this info helps!

housing two together can potentially lead to some pretty big issues.

That being said I currently have 2 ladies in the same enclosure. They were given to me by someone and were sisters and have always lived together. I kept them in the same tank, but feed them separately because they were only fed apples:rolleyes: before and now they get a variety of insects, and I don't want to give them a reason to fight each other.

Just something to think about though! :)

Mine are sisters as well, and have lived together since they were babies. I don't know if it's different if they are not related, or are introduced when older. We actually have 3 dragons, all sisters (or 1/2 sisters, we got them from the same bin at a reptile show). They grew up together in a 40 Gal. breeder, but we did build 2 separate cages. 2 are larger, and 1 is smaller - she's healthy, but I think the other 2 have the Giant gene, and Sage doesn't. We have the smallest in with the largest, and they share food so that's not a problem. Perhaps a breeder can chime in - they are the only dragons I've ever had, so are my only frame of reference.

I use a similar supplement schedule as I do my chameleon but I do a MultiVitamin once every week. My girlfriend and I dust their food with plain calcium everyday and give him D3 on the weekends.

Substrate we use a tile mix with sand to keep their nails down and retain the heat better, we use one mercury vapor bulb for uvb and heat and an addition heating bulb. Temps for basking should be around 100 and the whole cage should be around 90 degrees. Humidity shouldn't be all the much really.

The size of the enclosure should be massive, honestly if you do choose to do so make sure it is very large, they need a lot of space. Many people say that you shouldn't house them together but honestly, if they get along and their isn't problems between the two you can keep them together. I have three beardies myself and they don't share a terrarium but they get along when we take them out.

Good luck though! Hope it all goes well. PM with questions if you have them!

I have been wanting a bearded, but just not found that one I want yet...

something along the lines of a Citrus Tiger or Hypo Super Citrus is what I want. :p

I have two that i inherited as a "babysitting" job, but the guy doesn't want them back. Beware, these things are pigs. I swear everytime i feed them they act as if they've never seen food before in their life!

I just tool a lil guy in for adoption, doing very similar to waht has been suggested, so far he is too cool.

Lmao yes they are horrible, all they do is eat lmao it eels like they just constantly eat and eat and eat. Mine will go through two feedings of kale a day along with about 20 crickets lol

Unrelated females should have no issue getting along. One is bigger and there is no dominance issue whatsoever. The only issue is feeding because they steal from each other!

They live forever! Ours is pushing 11 years, with no signs of aging whatsoever. My son got him when he was just a little boy, but he has since entered the military so my daughter is caring for him now. I can honestly say that since my son was a typical boy, I know Cyrus did not always get all the suggested supplementation, and half the time my son would forget to turn on the UVB bulb. That said, he has always been healthy so I feel like they must be pretty tough!

Hey i just wanted to add that i always start offering food to all my babies from hatching. They usually wont eat it righy away but if you try putting it in before offering the insects they are more likly to pick at it. I use collared greens, dandilion greens, kale, bok choy and some fruit can be offered as well. Some of my guys favorites are strawberries, blue berries, and raspberries. All of my breeders get veggies daily. Fruit every other day and insects every day. When they are babies i usually break their feedings into 2 feeding and i only feed what they can eat in 10 minutes. My guys get calcium without D3 daily, multi Vitamin 2 times a month. And calcium with D3 once a month. They also need 95F-110F for a basking spot and thecool side of the tank is low 80's. At night they can get as low as 60F.
this is all the info i use with my breeders and their off spring. Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions
