Basking light question

It's going to be getting pretty hot here in Northern California. When the airs not on in my house it gets close to 90 degrees. My question is if my house is that hot do the Chams still need a basking light? They'd still have their UVB's of course.

This a great question. I have been wonderign the same thing with the temp getting higher here in texas as well.

How cool can you make the temps at night?

You should really figure out a way to keep the temps in the lower 80s. assuming this is a veiled and especially if this is a panther. If this is a jackson or montane species you'll most likely come home to a dead chameleon after a couple of days if you don't keep it in the 70s.

Reptiles NEED a cool down at night in order to sleep. The temp swing helps them metabolize their food (the getting warm part of the swing).

I have Veileds and Panthers. Night temps will be around 75. Do you guys suggest I leave the air on while I'm at work for them?

I would. If outside temp is expected to be in the 80s I turn on the AC. because if its low 80s outside the temp inside the room will reach mid-upper 80s because of the lights and the sun warming my apt. I have Melleri and they don't like it much above the lower 80s.

Around 83 to 85.

yeah, ambient shouldn't go much higher than this.

If ambient is gonna be significantly cooler than day time we open all the windows and run a large fan to cool the house at night once the outside air temp drops low enough. When we get to the point where the outside temp isn't getting low enough, we just run the A/c 24/7....... :( man do I hate seeing the bill those months!
