Yeah, there's no way Vincent sold an Ambilobe as an Ambanja. I bet he can just look at it and tell what sire it came from, if it did indeed come from him. It's also likely that at least one person from this forum has a brother to this one, if it did come from Vincent. He certainly sells a lot to people in this group.

I'm also torn between ambanja and ambilobe... and start to seriously think to buy morphs that are 50/50 between these two locales.
the more i research on ambanja, the more surprised i get. some Ambanja does have a quite full spectrum like ambilobe chams. So.. I dunno.. My instinct said that it's probably an ambilobe... but i would not be surprised if it turned out to be an ambanja either... |

It's definately not hard to tell lol. He's seen enough ambilobe to know it's an ambilobe. This chameleon was Captive hatched, so it's possible that they looked like Ambanja in the neonate and baby stages. But it's clearly coming out over a few months of raising that its almost a definate ambilobe. The guy just doesn't wanna give it up that it's ambilobe because he's probably bred the one he kept, as an ambanja. He bought 2 from Vincent and sold this one pictured. I imagine the one he kept looks even MORE like an ambilobe, because chances are, he kept the better looking of the 2.

I think Vincent is trying to be polite and politic with his answer
Hatching eggs from gravid wild caught mothers is somewhat risky in general. You have to trust that the female was collected from the locale they say it was. You have to trust that nobody mixed them up during the whole import process. Females can get mixed up so very easily. I got two brothers that were captive hatched from a gravid wild caught mother imported from Madegascar. They were supposed to be Ambilobes. At three months old they did look like they could be Ambilobes. Now as young sub-adults they are clearly Ambanja. The two brothers are pretty different in their coloring but there is no doubt in my mind that they are Ambanja. I'm not upset that I got something different than expected at all. I can see how these things happen along the way. A good looking chameleon is a good looking chameleon
