Agnes ...

Okay .. presented for your opinions, comments and consideration:

Agnes is an 8 month old (approx) virgin female veiled in my possession for a couple of weeks now.
She caught sight of Kitty today and .... see pic.
I'm thinking now that she may be developing a clutch of eggs. This coloration seems extreme to me and maybe not just "back off I'm not receptive!"
She is well filled out, but not obviously carrying eggs.
There is a suitable laying container in her enclosure.
She is not pacing, nervous etc... Rather she pretty much remains in one spot at the top of the enclosure unless she is hunting.
Appetite and drinking are excellent.
Thoughts?

Definitely looks gravid. Has she returned to 'normal' coloration after a while on her own?

Almost immediately.
In fact in the picture it was already fading.
She was completely green again less than a minute after he was out of sight.

I have never had a female develop infertile eggs, so I can't out of experience, say that they develop gravid coloration when gravid with infertile eggs. But I'd expect they did.

In my experience, females never show such coloration unless they're gravid. Even my non-receptive, non-gravid females (that HAVE laid eggs in the past)fail to show the yellow and blue when threatening a male.

*Earmuffs* for the youngsters.

There is the slightest possibility that she may have come in contact during a "GROUP" shower, but it would've had to have been a quickie, and the bloke that was with her in the shower was just a young, young lad.

If the male was able to pull it off in that short of time, I admire his wham-bam-thank you ma'am STYLE.

I highly doubt this scenario is likely, but I wouldn't toss the eggs if she lays them. It wont hurt to set up a box and see what happens. If she does lay eggs, let us now so I can get you a picture of the little scumbag who did this.

Ummmmmm! Brad-sounds like she lied to you about being a virgin! What are you going to tell Kitty! :)

This is her RIGHT before being sent to BRAD. What a sneaky little B-I-T-C-H!!!!!

She does look a little "loose" from this angle now that you mention it!

Hey Brad, I am in the same position as you. I posted this on 1/20 https://www.chameleonforums.com/female-veiled-saying-no-8676/
and almost everyone said she was gravid. I could not feel eggs then and still cannot now.
Sunday I had my male on my hand and showed him to her and immediately she changed to the colors in the picture. A few minutes later (after I moved the male out of eye sight) she changed back.
She moves around the cage but I would not consider it pacing. I have had a laying container in her cage for what seems like forever. She knows its there because she walks through it from time to time.
Her appetite is good and seems to empty out on a regular basis. Other than her looking a little chubby, the only other signs of being gravid is the coloring when a male is present.

It is over 3 weeks since I took that picture. Assuming she is gravid, when should she be ready to lay eggs? (Anyone??)

Sorry for the long comment. I am very interested in how your female does.

Oh yeah, my female is roughly 9 months old

Jim

Jim, they usually lay aroud 30-40 days. My first mating ended up with an entire infertile clutch (long story) and she layed them at 22 days. Her second one was fertile and she layed at 34 days.

I'd also have to agree with Eric that when she was carrying the infertile clutch, she never displayed that totally "gravid" look.

Thanks! I will just keep keeping an eye on her for "I need to lay eggs" signs.
