have received 3 different emails this week, either inquiring as to the differences of jacksons or maybe even some confusion, so i just thought i would post a quick link that explains it better than i can (i tend to be better at confusing an issue than i am at explaining it, lol)

so, for those who still have questions, or just want an informative jacksons link here you go;

happy tricerosing (i know not a real word) xantho

I have a question about this topic. I have baby Jackson's and I was wondering if it was possible to tell what subspecies they are at this age. Or is it impossible to tell because all baby Jackson's look the same?

i have viewed your pic and imo, it is a < 5 wk xanth, judging by the forehead i would say most likely male. judging by his ribs showing, i would say not looking overly promising. imo, a vet and help form would be prudent.
jmo.

From the neonate Jackson pictures I've seen and my own experience, I can't tell the difference between the three sub species at that age. I've seen pictures recently of j. jacksonii and they looked like j. xantholophus to me.
Also I'm curious what a vet would do with a neonate Jackson? I personally would never take one to a vet as the trip would alone could do them in.

Yes I think he's less than 5 wk as well but those ribs u see in the pic isn't always there only wen he's startled. He eats well and I give him as much natural sunlight possible. Only problem is he isn't drinking everyday. My other baby eats and drinks everyday. I'm hoping nothing is wrong with him. Any suggestions to encourage him to drink. I most them a few times them I drip water in front of them or on a leaf. This method seems to work with my other Cham. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

its hard to give any meaningful advice without the help form in its entirety imo, hes too young to supplement with anything other than plain cal. hopefully you are not also giving him d3 if he is getting outside sun

but if you want an evaluation thats complete enough to be meaningful, you will need to fill out the help form in its entirety and re-post in the health clinic. the better job you do filling it out the better the qlty of advice you receive.

Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care? I have 2 xantholophus, I think I have 1 male 1 female, I've had them for 2 weeks and I think they are less than 5 weeks of age.
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? Everyday. But I don't force them on me. I pick them up with a stick they are already on and I take them out for sunlight
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? I feed them crickets 3 times a day about 2-3 crickets at a time, I guy load with carrots, apples, potatoes, honey dew, cantaloupe.
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? Calcium without d3 every other day. No multi vitamin yet. And no d3 sinc I give natural sunlight.
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?I mist their cage to make sure water droplets form on the leaves and drip water in front of them. I see them drink once a day. But my male barely drinks
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? White urates for both chams and large turds. No tests for parasites yet.
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you. N/a

Agreed!! They really are a amazing jacksons but from what I no there pretty much unheard of over here in the uk

I've just brought xantholophus of Toby and I didn't no this!! You should of never told me I was happy in thinking I couldn't get them lol

Well, if he doesn't breed them himself then he will probably know where to get them. I know he definitely breeds Xanths and Jax Jax as my friend recently got a JJ from him.

There are some about in the UK. Phelsuma Farm breeds all 3 subspecies I believe.

I dont think they do. Im sure I asked them before and they only have xanths and j.jacksonii
