My brother bought a 1 year old carpet chameleon 10 days ago and he came home today to his chameleon not doing to good. She was all yellow, nose was black, limp, eyes were close and a discharge coming out of her nose and eyes. He has a UVB light, waterfall, artificial grass and vines in her cage. About a week ago he added the artificial grass. The chameleon was doing great, enjoyed being held, and was handfed crickets. He dusted the crickets once with calcium. He didn't have the basking light on either because the room usually stays between 80 and 85 degrees. I need your help with why this happen and what should I do. We are waiting a call back from vet. Thank you in advance for your help.

I agree. Get him to a vet ASAP.

Then I would remove the waterfall.

Please fill out the how to ask for help form to give us more info on his care.

If the ambient temp of the room is 85 he is probably too hot. He needs to be able to get away from the heat by going lower in the cage. If you can't get the room temp to high 70s at least then up the misting of the cage to lower the temp. Carpets need more water than panthers or veilds so make sure he has a drip running for a good part of the day.
Another issue may be how much calcium you are putting on the feeders. Don't cake it on like you'e making fried chicken. Just make sure they are lightly dusted where its barely visible on the crickets. I've seen chams get lethargic quickly due to over supplementing. Hope this helps.

Starting with: vet ASAP

I think it would help if you filled out the "How to Ask For Help" info.

Minimally, that will help you organize your thoughts when talking to the vet. (copy it, paste it into a reply and type in your info...then print it to take with you to the vet)

It might also help someone here see a possible problem you can correct.

I'll say upfront that some of what you've mentioned runs counter to the suggested practices of this board. So, I think there are improvements in husbandry that can be made.

On the other side of the coin, chameleons typically do not show illness early and the animal has only been in your brother's care 10 days, so it's possible the problem pre-dates your brother buying it.

However, don't let that idea stop you from getting the info. Chameleons are very resilient and if it's been in a bad situation, maybe people here can help you and your brother make it's new situation good.
